It says in the spec section on the American Standard that it has H/S/H pickup routing? What does that mean? Is it that the body has already holes for humbuckers made? If thats the case what does that do to the sound? Does'nt it make it more "acoustic" or something.

Hello Jacobthebluesman,

HSH thats a
humbucker in neck,
single in center,
humbucker in bridge.

It no doubt has affect on tone,
but the tone you get is great
so I guess it's fine.

SSS many believe to be the
best routing{myself included}
but they are making strats
with various routings, including the
dreaded swimming pool rout.
which frankly do the job well.

What exact affect they have I cannont say.

Cheers.

Probably only Eric Johnson can tell the sonic difference

Ha-ha, yes: I did read that Eric Johnson supposedly can tell which brand batteries are in his FX pedals - by ear. So I guess he could probably tell the pickup route just by listening, too.

That must make gig-going a misery for him. "Oh no, this guitarist's Strat is routed for a humbucker at neck. Now I just can't enjoy the show..."

If anyone is interested, my friend (deadzone) posed the question about an american deluxe vs american standard routing.
Read it here.

Well ever sens I bought my 2008 Amercian Standard I always thougt it sounded a little bit more acoustic then some other strats I played. Maybe it's the "thin" cote of paint or something but I don't know. But I always had that felling. It was'nt before yesterday i saw there was an H/S/H routing.

I addressed this on another thread. Economies of production obviously have dictated this protocol and I would not be surprised if, over time, the same model in different years will have a different routing.

If more wood is your concern I have suggested that any Custom Shop order specifiy the routing and body contours you want.

There are resources in print which will show you how this routing has evolved over the past 50 years.

Doc
