Yeah my only complaint is that on a strat. the volume knob is right next to the bridge making you play over the volume knob which can be uncomfortable.

That is my exact BIGGEST complaint about ANY guitar that I've ever played. I mean seriously look at most signature models from any brand and you'll start to notice that MOST of them have the controls out of the way. I've turned down soooooo many great guitars just because the volume knob was in that spot. On my Jackson SLS Soloist I got rid of the tone knob (wired it as if it were on 10), moved the volume knob to the tone knob hole, and then plugged the volume knob hole with a plastic body plug. That's a whole lot of you know what to go through just to get the axe where you want it to be especially after investing $1,500.00 into it! Thank you for bringing that up brother!!!

I think that i'm just gonna move the volume knob and take out a tone knob so i have a master volume and master tone knob. And then i want to put three seymour duncan 59 mini humbuckers on my mim deluxe strat.

There is no such guitar that has ALL the options. If there was such a perfect guitar, it would have taken the market by storm years ago. That's why the Pros own so many different guitars, because they are all different.

In your question, you're comparing apples and oranges when you try to compare Strats to SGs and Les Pauls.

They are totally different guitars in many ways.

1. Starting with the necks:
------------------------------
Strats are long scale (25.5") versus the shorter scale of SGs/Les Pauls (24.75"). Standard Strats have 9.5" neck radius versus the 12" neck radius of SGs/Les Pauls. Both of these differences show up in playability.

NOTE: If you get a Deluxe Player's Strat or an SRV Strat, then you'll get a 12" radius neck.

2. The biggest difference is sonic--the pickups!!
------------------------------------------------------
There's no comparing Strat single coil pickups and Strat electronics to Gibson Humbucking pickups and Gibson electronics.

For this reason alone, there is ONLY one answer to your question:

Get a Strat AND an SG or Les Paul, and you'll have the best of both worlds!!

3. Other significant differences:
------------------------------------
The materials they're made of, most notably, the wood. From my personal experience, guitars made of mahogany (SGs, Les Pauls, etc.) tend to be harder to keep in tune due to the wood's sensitivity to changes in temperature and humidity. With equal tuners, Strats will hold their tuning better than SGs/Les Pauls.

Set neck (neck glued to body) guitars, such as SGs/Les Pauls versus the bolt-on necks of Strats and almost all Fender guitars. Bolt-on necks have more give should you accidentally drop the guitar. Chances are very good that your Strat will survive and keep on rockin'. Chances are very good that your SG and/or Les Paul will break!

So why do some guitar makers choose to glue the neck to the body instead of bolting it on? They do it for increased sustain. Les Pauls are famous for their sustain, due to their heavy bodies, set necks and humbucking pickups.

The bridge is another major difference. SGs and Les Pauls have had a fixed bridge for over 50 years. Strats have had a whammy bar with floating bridge since their initial design in 1954.

SUGGESTION:
----------------
Go to some local music stores and play all these guitars, AND play different styles of music on them.

It's all about the SOUND, man!!!!

Like blues renegade said, the deluxe strat and SRV have the 12 radius. I used to have an epiphone les paul black custom and traded it in for my saphire deluxe players strat. I think the sound quality there is great. I also agree with musicians having so many guitars because i also own a mim tele in sunburst and a jet black ibanez for strict shredding. I think most of what he said is correct.

I have a MIA Strat, will have a MIM CP50 Strat in a couple days, and I have a '70-'72 Gib SG; get one now and the others later. You get such different sounds out of each. The SG gets me the Classic (Hard) Rock sounds while the MIA (Texas Specials pups) gets me the Blues-Rock. The new MIM w/ EMG SAs should give me a nice in-between...

The biggest difference you will notice is how each reacts to a lil crunch, especially out of a tube amp; the SG breaks-up more than the Strat and handles the distortion better. Strats will handle distortion, but they seem to be a tad fussier...maybe it's just the Texas Specials I put in...but the SG reacts better to the OCD...lookin' into the Fulltone '70s pedal, which a SRV Sig handled well at GC thru a '59 Bassman...

However, don't go Epi. Go for the gold, go for the Gibson! =]

I own a 1996 Fender Standard Strat HSS and an Epi Les Paul. You can't really compare due to 2 very real differences. One is sound due to pickups, and the other is scale length, which provides a different feel in your hands. I love both of mine, and they are used for different sounds. A les Paul thru a Marshall is awesome. A Strat thru a Twin Reverdb is fantastic. What do you like???

I think a Strat through a Marshall can sound pretty awesome too.

Lots of guys would agree.

And a Gibson through a Twin is nice (ask BB King).
