I'm not a great lover of tortoiseshell (unless it's on a tortoise) but that looks very classy.

I got that same one at Guitar Center, it was marked down and I got the 15% off for Labor Day as well. I only went in to pickup a new Tuner Pedal.

Then I got rid of the PVC wire the .022 cap and the no load tone pot. Sounds right now :)

The interesting history behind this model is in 1959 they actually did a Run of these they sprayed white over sunburst and added tortoise shell guards at the factory.

The Custom Shop has done a lot of reissues of it as well here is a 1959 reissue.

Here is SRV switching to one when he broke a string.

Was nice to get one in the American Standard line.

Thanks guys, and thanks for sharing the history donnycraven. What are the specs on the cap, and tone pot you installed? Wouldn't mind upgrading mine if it sounds better. When you say it sounds right now, what exactly are the differences you hear? Thanks.

PVC wire has no capacitance it causes a brighter sound, by replacing the PVC wire with cloth wire it helps tone up your Strat. The Cap is a Fender Wax .1 vintage cap they sell them on ebay Fender makes them. The Fat 50s sound so much better and Vintage with this upgrade. The Custom Shop Does It OEM.

Ths is the actual 1959 under the hood.

This is Custom Shop wiring with both a .1 and a .05 Cap installed. I like just the .1 like a 59.

The pot is just a standard Fender 250k
