I was wondering if the necks on the 2001 MIM Strats were 9.5" or 7.25". Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Fretboard radius has nothing to do with the thickness or contour of the neck itself.

My question was if anyone knows what the neck radius was for 2001 MIM Strats.

Instead of starting the snappiness, it might be better policy to specify the exact models. There were several radii and neck profiles on 2001 and 2005.
Or send the serial numbers to Fender, you should get the factory specs in return.

Or buy a set of neck radius templates - they are good to have for setting up your string heights any way.

If the purpose is to just measure whether it's 9.5" or 7.25", there's no need to pay for and wait for that.

The question makes no sense, not only because it appears to confuse thickness of neck with fretboard radius, but because it's rather obvious how to determine that yourself.

Primary school method:

Set a compass (or a string with a pencil tied to the end) to 9.5" distance, then draw a small arc of a circle on a piece of paper. About the width of your fretboard will do.
Cut along the line, and place the outer part on the fretboard.

If fits perfectly, you have a 9.5".
If it wobbles, you have a 7.25".
If it arches, you have a bigger radius than 9.5"
If it arches more the farther down the fretboard, you have a compound radius.

High school method:

Place a ruler at the lip of the fretboard, from one edge corner to another. Then measure two things:
- The width of the fretboard on the ruler. Divide by two and call the result l.
- The maximum height over the ruler between the 3rd and 4th string. This is called the sagitta, and we'll call it s.
Plug it into the following formula:
r = (l^2 + s^2) / 2s

If you measured 2.25" width and .067" height, you get:
r = (1.125 * 1.125 + 0.067 * 0.067) / (0.067 + 0.067)
r = 9.478", or 9.5"

Redneck method:

Eyeball the durn guitar. Look down the plunkboard towards a car with 19" tires. If it rounds the same, it's a 9.5" (half of 19"). If it rounds more, it's 7.25".

Consumer method:

Call Fender Customer Support.

An original 2001 MIM neck is FOR SURE a 9.5" radius. I own several of this era of production and I own radius gauges. You can believe me when I tell you they are 9.5". They also have vintage fret wire up until mid 2005.

PFFFFFT!

All MIM Classic Series Strats ('50s, '60s, '70s) feature a 7.25" radius and vintage fretwire, from their inception in 1998 until today.

It depends on what you mean by vintage. The earliest 9.5" radius Fenders came out 43 years ago now - some Deluxe models in 1973.

You are right,

Few years ago vintage was '60 area, now it is '70.
In 10 years it will be 1980

What I meant was the year range of a 2001. If it's a Fender Standard Strat made in Mexico, it has a 9.5" radius. Yes, the Classic, etc series are different. In 2005 they began using medium jumbo fret wire on the mexican series of standards. Go check the catalogs.
