Hi, I'm new here but this seems like a very sensible place to ask...

I have an American Special - maple neck - with Texas Special pickups, which I love. I have the chance to buy a Highway 1 - rosewood board - with the regular alnico 3 pickups.

Seeing as I'm after a different, more vintage-y tone than I get already, is the Highway 1 a step in the right direction or a bit of a sideways move.

Thanks

Guitar sound and how one hears/feels it are very personal matters, so YMMV, and be sure to test drive the Highway One to find out if it's the one to fill your needs.
But I think you'd be in the same sound field - the Highway One has a similar in-your-face, Texas bluesy, hot-rodded character as the Texas Specials give.
