I have a failed truss rod in my American HSS and am getting the neck replaced under warranty. But the shop said I should expect a 90 to 120 wait for them to get the neck.

This seems crazy to me. The shop I'm using is very reputable so I have no doubt they are shooting straight with me. Does Fender usually take this long? It just seems like extraordinarily poor service to take this long to deliver something they must make scores of every day.

Three to four months' wait is about typical. Remember, you're not dealing solely with the factory craftsmen -- such a monumental decision to replace a neck is usually overseen by twenty to thirty bureaucrats who have much more pressing matters than merely ensuring a customer's satisfaction.

What would be fair was if the warranty was extended for the amount of time the customer had to wait for warranty repairs or parts. The customer should not have to suffer a shorter period of being able to use the instrument under warranty because of Fender - the warranty clock should stop counting whenever waiting for Fender.

Fair enough but this is actually for a lifetime warranty. Maybe my heirs might be interested in the extension. :-)

The guitar is about 10 years old right now. I play with pretty high action so never caught the problem before. I only caught it now because I did a fret leveling job and the rod wouldn't pull the neck flat even with no string on.
