I'm intrigued by the Fender necks with the jumbo frets. The Strats that I have really liked have had "C" necks with 9.5" radius and med-jumbo frets. But, on other guitars, like my Schecter, I really like the thin necks with jumbo frets as the feel "fast" to me. I feel that I can play solo things easier and cleaner with jumbo frets.

Those of you who have had Strats with the more standard med-jumbo and jumbo frets, can you give me your opinion on what you like or don't like about each size fret, can compare the two.

TIA. :)

I think the standard medium-jumbo frets are a good compromise between the low feel of vintage frets and the easier bending that goes with jumbo frets. Being a guy who is all about lots of versatility in one package, I am a fan.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I have an Am Special, so modern C, 9.5 radius and jumbo, frets, love the jumbos, find em prefect for me, and any future guitar (Special is a keeper) I would refret to jumbo frets.

I also have a Special (great guitar, even though it's my 'cheapest'), but had the jumbos changed to medium jumbos as I kept catching my fingers on them when moving up and down the neck. Sounds silly maybe, but I just couldn't get on with them. At the price I got the guitar for, (plus selling one), I was quite happy to pay the cost of a refret, and it's transformed it for me!

On the other hand, I had an Ibanez RG550 for many years and had no problem at all with the jumbos. I put it down to the totally different-shape neck...

Cheers - Peter.

What I don't like about the medium jumbo frets is that they're the lowest frets Fender ever made - so low that you can't dress them much, and you'll end up refretting sooner.
In a way, they're like Jumbo frets that have been filed down twice already.
If they had been stainless steel, my opinion would have been different.

But having big hands and doing up/down style vibrato, I'm not a big fan of either. I like tall narrow frets, which give more room.
