Hello, everyone.

I was thinking of buying used stratocaster, and I've came across what seems to be a good deal recently.

I'm not a very experienced player, and my guitar knowledge is quite lacking. So I was wondering if someone experienced could assist me in identifying genuineness of the guitar.

The seller claims it to be a Fender Stratocaster American Standard.

After checking the serial number through guitardater, it seems to be a legit one. However on a further expection through google, it seems like someone has already had guitar with the same serial number and it was most likely a fake one. However I still believe there might be a possibility of this guitar actually being genuine.

Here are some photos the seller provided.

Hope it will be enough to make an educated guess. Thanks in advance.

Ok, thanks for the info. So then it's most likely a fake, right?

The seller didn't provide this info. I may ask him, but then again, If the neck wasn't made by fender, is there really a reason to? Big thanks for the advice, I will surely keep it in mind.

+1

As phony as Hillary's claim of support for the Second Amendment.

Walk away......let somebody else be duped.

Well I could be wrong but the contours look different and the curves on the board after the last fret dont seem the same.
Looks like writing on the bottom of the pickups in the last and seems like six screws rather than pivots as well but maybe just the photo? :D

Indeed so. Definitely a different guitar and looks even less legit like than the 1st guitar.

I wouldn't so much walk away as RUN!

This guitar is a legit Fender.
At least 2 of the other photos are not of the guitar pictured in this post, and I suspect that the photo of the back of the headstock is not from the pictured guitar either.

Ah but ....the camera angle could make the MiA T string T and walnut truss rod ferrule look like a vintage string T and no walnut ferrule in the first picture.

Absolutely 2 different guitars, if not 3.

I agree that this one looks more promising from the photo but assume it isn't the one for sale.

And why are the tuners unevenly spaced and what it that strange pointed dome head on the tuner posts?

If criminals are going to produce fakes they could at least try to get close to the original. Hateful scum.

My two-penneth is that the last pic's body edges are 'squared-off' like the 90's US Strats, so that 'Strat' certainly can't be a 2012! Agreed it's not the same guitar as pic 3, so is OP setting us a little test?!

Cheers - Peter.

Even the back of the headstock photo is of the conterfeit - Fender never used those Gotoh tuners on a USA build (I don't count the HM Strats - even though they were sold as USA I believe the bodies and necks were shipped to Corona fully finished and just assembled in the USA, and I imagine the necks had the Gotoh tuners installed on them at FujiGen before they were shipped).

As everyone has said Photo #3 is a legit American Standard; Photos 1, 2 and 4 are a Chinese counterfeit.
