Hi guys!

New to this forum (and not a native English speaker, so forgive me if I get confusing). I was just wondering if anyone could help me determine whether these pickups are really what the guy says they are. They are supposed to be Custom Shop '54. Now, I've never been able to tell various models apart and from what I've heard on YT they sound great!

This is the link to the ad (I sure hope that I'm doing this the right way) http://www.kupujemprodajem.com/big-photo-38165926-3.htm

Thank you!

Based on the general looks, wires, stagger and beveling, I'd say those are CS54's.
But they seem to have gone through some rough times, so the price should follow the condition.

Mine also have rounded edges to the covers. I can't make it out on your photographs,

Although these might be different.

Thank you for your reply!
Yes, they sure look beat up. However, being that here everything costs way more than it should (Serbia), the guy is asking 120 Euros (cca 130 USD) for them. Does that seem like a reasonable price? I think the new set is around 200 USD.

Thank you for your input!
I think these also have rounded edges. I've been staring at the photos ever since I saw your post. :D

The radiused top edges of the covers were a specific hallmark of the '54 pickups. The originals were made of bakelite and did not wear well, with split edges and fracturing common even when relatively new. They were replaced by newly-designed covers made from a more durable material for the 1955 model year.

Fender's Pure Vintage '54 covers are of the correct early configuration though they are fabricated from modern materials for the sake of durability.

I read somewhere on this forum that they are not meant for maple necks. Something about them being too bright. Can anyone verify that, or is it just one man's opinion? 'Cause I want to put them on a maple neck strat copy.

An absolute load of crap (merde, if you're fluent in French)!

The 1954 Strat only came with a maple fretboard. And the Pure Vintage '54 pickups are voiced to emulate this instrument. Which is precisely the way Leo designed it.

You may find them a bit bright but that's why God invented tone controls for an amplifier. Use them if needed.

Thanks, Retroverbial! I'll definitely give them a go. I mean, if they sound that good on Youtube, I can't wait to hear them live. :-)

I wouldn't put much stock in any youtube video but I've heard these pickups in person and they do sound tasty.

The guitar in my photo is a MIJ '54 and I have fitted the 54 pickups.
The sound is great.
