I looked at it closely. It ISNT a Classic series 70s. If you look at the Roadhouse Deluxe the back neck plate is a lot different than other strats, which is another issue. even if it was four screws it wouldn't fit lol.

I was thinking of the previous version of the Roadhouse; you've got the new model the Roadhouse Deluxe. You would have to drill a fifth hole in the wood since it has the contoured neck heel.

yep. now that we've figured that out. Ill be on the lookout for classic series 70s neck. Stratosphere only has the RI which is not the same

The Stratosphere has incorrectly (stupidly) called them a "reissue" when in fact, there is no such thing as a "70s Reissue" Strat (how can you "reissue" something that was never issued in the first place?). There is only the "Classic Series 70s", which is what the Stratosphere has.

BTW, did you understand that if you get a Classic Series 70s neck, to put on your newer style Roadhouse Deluxe, you will have to drill another hole in the neck in order to fit it to the body?

Yes I do understand and thanks for the reminder. No, stratosphere has no classic series necks, which are all gloss. That neck there is satin. I asked them.

So I saw a classic 70s series strat for the price of a neck so I bought a 2011 white with rosewood. Does anyone know if anything changed with them from 2011 till now. Can't wait to shoot them out. On fender.com they are all listed as modern 5 way switch, when did that come about because I've heard here and there the classic series were 3 way only. Thanks in advance

The Classic Series Strats (all three year-groups) have always shipped with a 5-way switch installed. Always.

Nah, the neck has five holes. Conventional 4, and the center hole. I saw it on ebay.

The fifth hole is the micro tilt adjustment screw

The so-called 'fifth hole' on the center of the steel plate is not a micro-adjustment hole, it is the bottom hole for a 3-bolt neck. The micro tilt is located behind the plate and is very tiny controlled by an allen key, similar in size or maybe slightly larger than the ones using to set the saddle height.

Stratosphere dismantle guitars and sell the parts. They are, in effect, second hand hence why the holes are there.

Right - but from the factory a Classic 70s would have the 3-bolt attachment using the 2 top holes and the hole in the micro-tilt. I wasn't sure if FMIC was drilling the 2 bottom holes at the factory of if Stratosphere was adding them after they dismantled the guitars.
Some 70's reissue necks do come with 4 holes pre-drilled, but the hole on the bottom right on mine seemed to be filled. Fender is very weird when it comes to parts. I've seen all sorts. This is my AVRI 70s Strat neck taken apart.

^^YES it is! And Fender calls it "AVRI' for a reason. You are confusing it with the Fender Mexican 'Classic 70's Strat', which is another story. To me, the American Vintage 70's Reissue (my Strat) pays homage to the '71 Strat. It has almost everything period-correct - 3-Way Switch, 'Grey Bottom' or Grey Bobbin Alnico V Magnets, Single String-Tree, Vintage Frets, Stainless steel Trem Block, Vintage opposite Fender stamped bent-steel Saddles (before the '72 being block), etc. The ONLY difference and thing missing is the tiny 'patent-numberings' below the Fender logo. They do this to differentiate from it being a true vintage Strat. However....again, the Mexican 'Classic 70' Series' ISN'T a reissue because it covers the entire 70s decade.

That is my point, Fender does not call them a RI at all, but rather an "American Vintage 70s". Successful marketing seems to be the reason that the some retailers added the RI part.

I'm not sure if the 10 of 15 "American Vintage 70s Hardtail" was the same guitar as the "American Vintage 70s" first version. Fender also has "American Vintage '56", "American Vintage '59", "American Vintage '65", and even though these are specific years, as opposed to the "70s", Fender does not call any of them RI, as they did with the previously made "57 RI", the "62 RI".......

BTW, the neck picture on the first page of this thread, from "thestratosphere", is a Mexican neck, it is absolutely gloss, and is not a RI either, it is a "Classic Series 70s" neck. If they said it is a "satin" finish they are idiots with overpriced and over-hyped wares, and I wouldn't buy anything from them.

I wish fender never changed the "stratocaster" decal for the 68 strats and on . The large 67 headstock and decals are the best looking to me. That should be standard on all strats seriously. Large headstock,
Classic decals :thumbs up: The roadhouse looks really cheesy in person with the brown logo on white satin maple. anyway I can't wait to try out both guitars and I'll keep you posted. If anyone knows if they changed the pickups on the classic series 70s feel free to chime in. Every YouTube video I hear I'm so floored. It's thicker and less brittle than the roadhouse vintage noiseless

I'm not surprised in the least. Those VN's never sounded authentic to me.

It is a sort of "inspired by" but no more accurate than that. It has a four screw satin finish neck with modern MiA T saddles, conventional truss rod (no bullet head) and modern tuners. I also has a five position switch.

Of the period features the large headstock (with swoopy logo) and 70s non reverse wound PUPS about sum it up. IIRC the second tone control is only wired to the middle PUP as well. It obviously has a hard tail but I don't really consider that a period feature as such.

I grew up in the 90s and even as a kid I remember thinking their headstock was disproportioned. Fender if you're listening. Keep your regular modern decals or early decals from creation-1967, and make the headstock bigger. Use one string tree! One day I'll be able to buy a 1967 strat, and I think I'll reverse the pickups because since Jimi was a left his pickups were also in reverse from Top down.

But then again, it only looks good with the huge 'Stratocaster' logo plastered across that big head. Fender admitted it that the only reason for the big headstock was to accommodate that big logo, and nothing else (but Yngwie disagrees). Not sure why it took them a couple of years to adapt. To me, early 70's headstocks with the bullet truss rod looks the best!
