I would like to remove one of the tone controls, move the volume down a spot and have 1 master tone control. Anybody have a diagram of how that should look? This is a Blacktop Strat, MIM, HH, with 5 way switch.

afaik, the Blacktop has a 5-way superswitch and coil split options.
This may be more useful

The Fender pickup wiring colors are not the same as Seymours but you should be able to transpose from the Fender diagram

Nope, that (edit: the one st52 posted - I was writing when 64G posted his options) doesn't work - the Blacktop HH original diagram is this: http://support.fender.com/service_diagr ... B_SISD.pdf

It would be easy to wire the guitar to a HH with a 3way switch. But the difficult part is to keep the 5way switch and the positions #2 (outside coils on both pups on) and 4 (inside coils on both pups on).

Sorry I can't help with the diagram - I just follow what wiser men draw. But hopefully someone else on the forum can help - although we've lost a few real wiring wizards from the forum. (And so, once again, my kind thoughts turn to the fourth rock...)

But I'll throw in an additional question to those new wizards; can this be just a simple (hah...) job of moving the VOL pot to the second hole, plus tracing the wires from Tone2 (which will be omitted) and transferring those to Tone1 (which becomes the master tone)..?

The tone pot that you want to remove has a white wire connected to the switch. Remove that white wire from the switch lug, and connect a jumper wire from that same lug, to the lug containing the white wire from the other tone pot. Clip the black wires from the back of the tone pot that you want to remove, and connect those two black wires together. It looks like the shield wire from the bridge pickup might be soldered to the back of the tone pot (I cant tell from the pictures I took when mine was opened up). If so, remove that wire from the tone pot and solder it to the back of the volume pot after you move the volume pot to the new location. Remove the disconnected tone pot, move the volume pot to that spot. Figure out how to plug the hole where the volume pot was.

Before you make any changes take clear photos of the original wiring from multiple angles that way you can return it to original if you run into problems.
I could be wrong (teehee) but the fender pdf looks incorrect. The bottom bank is doing the coil shorting in pos 2 and 4 but when you look at the linking for the red pickup wires it appears both pickups are on in every position i.e. the connecting links as indicated are not right. They should be on most and not on one for each pu . Anyone got a clear original wiring pic?
If it were me I would ditch the lower tone and all its wires ... or just remove the white wire.
You could even leave the control in situ to avoid having to plug the hole.
I would then shift the single remaining tone white wire to the same spot as the red wire feeding the volume control.
Doing this ensures only the correct pickup is turned on via the selector otherwise you are tying the pickups together and turning them both on via the tone control switching
Once completed do the tap test to ensure each pickup is turned on only in the positions expected.
I am not sure why you want to do this .... you are reducing the tonal pallette significantly. :D

Agreed - I bought a superswitch and wired one of my HH Strats (with SD p/ups) to the Fender Big Apple diagram, and it didn't work. And I'm positive I copied it exactly!

I just went for a coil tap in 2 & 4 in the finish, which I could easily work out myself, and I'm very pleased with the result. I don't have tone pots at all, but it'd be easy enough...

Cheers - Peter.

Hey guys I just joined to ask could someone please tell me how to mod the blacktop wiring to get split neck only in position 4? It's got to be pretty simple I just can't find anything anywhere. I don't want to change anything else, just cut out the outer bridge coil in that position. Thank you.

Hello, I've searched high and low and can't find a straight answer. Could someone please tell me how to get just neck split in position 4 instead of both outer coils?
