My local Guitar Center has a used 1990s-era 1957 Reissue Strat. Sad to say I "bonded" with the guitar yesterday and barely made it out of the store without buying it. One thing that stopped me is the previous owner swapped out the stock pups for vintage noiseless. The stock pups are included in the case, so I could always put them back in. They want $1,200 for it. I was going to offer $1,000, but they won't take less for used gear until they've had it for 3 months. Anybody out there have one of these? It was made in Japan.

A buddy at church has one -- they're very nice Strats (assuming an alder body). I think he paid $400 for it way back when. $1200 is far too much for that guitar. I've seen them as low as $670 on Ebay.

Sunburst models run $700ish tops and a custom color $800 and that's if in mint condition. Nice guitars, but got to agree with Arjay that the price is too steep.

As others have said, yes, that price seems excessive.
Remember that 90's is not antique - it's just old.
If you really want a '57 RI, you can find American made ones for less.

Is it that particular guitar which spoke to you or just the general feel of a '57? If the latter, there are far better deals out there. As others have said that otherwise seems viciously over priced.

Yep, $1200 can get you a MIA in excellent condition.

That's not a Japanese Strat.

It appears to be a MIA AVRI from the late '80s or early '90s.

I agree. By the shape of the headstock and the 'incorrect' dot spacing, this seems to be an American AVRI.
I think this would be well worth the asking price. Get the serial number.

The serial number is a V followed by six numbers. I thought that meant it was made in Japan.

There are loads of V entries for MIA guitars
http://www2.fender.com/support/articles ... ct-dating/

The Japanese guitars have "Made In Japan" or "Crafted In Japan" waterslide decals at the base of the neck, visible above the neck pocket.
They also have the correct dot spacing at the 12th fret.

I looked all over the guitar but couldn't find either a made in Japan or a made in the US anywhere on it.

Just like this......

The subject of this thread's topic is most assuredly a MIA AVRI 57 -- no doubts, no alibis, no excuses. The asking price is reasonable and you've already "bonded" with it. Now get off of your fattass and go pick it up.
