That Rickenbacker would offer a wider fretboard option on some of its more popular models......?

and lower their prices (not quality) and allow vendors to advertise "street" prices.

[quote="LawFlow" My wife and I have been together since 1970, 3 great kids and their wonderful spouses, no major health issues, and the Lord has never fallen short regarding provision. On top of all that, I finally have time to play my guitar. What more can you ask?
Take care. :)[/quote]

Just had to quote this... sooo good to read these kind of comments on the internet.

keep your post coming folks... it became really informative how it was back in the day!!

as a mid-30s dude from the 80s, can't really chime in anything old but only the grunge and alternative music we played in clubs and all the kids love all black Ibanez/ Strat guitars with our MetalZones!

Yes, good health, good family and a Fender Strat. Sounds perfect to me! I doubt Richard Branson has it any better when you boil it down!

Valvestate, I also had a (white) 1990 Ibanez RG550 and gigged it regularly. Beautifully made in Japan, knocked the build quality of my 1979 Strat into a cocked hat! I put DiMarzio's on it instead of the IBZ's but otherwise it was standard. Usually put it through a Boss HM-2 and amp clean channel. So I too was very 80/90's at that time! I actually only sold the guitar about 5 years ago because the thin neck was making my hand ache.

I don't know how much further we can stray from the original subject...!!!

Cheers - Peter.

Really!! Now, about that beautiful dark blue metallic MIJ Strat that valvestate is excited about....... valvestate, what do you think? Enough discussion or do you have more questions or concerns? Usually for me, if I sleep on a purchase decision for a couple of days and still feel the same with no red flags, then I go for it, enjoy and don't look back. Of course, haggle a little and let us know.

I should buy one of these nice Dallas's instead (this was one of my first 'real' electrics). Note the Bigsby-on-a-budget trem, and floating (several inches if you were unlucky) bridge. Other useful features you can't really see on this pic of one just like my old one. It's not actually mine as I can't see any knotted strings...

Worth a fortune now, for some strange reason!

Cheers - Peter.

That's really pretty nice. A google search for Sears Silvertone guitars did not provide anything that looked like mine. It was horrible. I must go by memory, but it was a 1 pickup turquoise, solid body monstrosity that had a very bad neck bow & angle and a non adjustable wooden bridge. If it had a truss rod, it didn't work. I really thought this was how guitars were and wondered how these guys I saw on TV could actually play them. We had to play somewhere and I was missing some strings. Our drummer's brother or someone could give me a loaner. That was the 1965 Fender Strat (never heard of Fender, just Beatles gear). The quest was on.
I tried to steer us back on track. :D

Seconded. There are more than a few of us out here with big hands.

I also wish Rickenbacker would allow vendors to advertise prices. It's hard to compare their models when you can't compare prices too.

That may be a legal stipulation of the franchise between the company and their dealers.

Decades ago (in the pre-internet era) Fender operated in a similar fashion.

Folks... I still cannot make up my mind!! I want a Fender Japanese made I think I've narrowed down to these 3 choices! I'm still leaning towards the BTP flip flop since it is limited run, super comfy 9.5" , slim C, HSS but its the last display piece and its a bit 'used' and looks beat up... needs some tender loving care. This is also the most expensive of the 3 and funds is not that big anymore...

The other 2 are already fully setup and very very clean looking despite they're also last pieces on the store. My concern is that they're on the chunky side of the neck , 7.5" radius (difficult to bend) and the truss rod is inside the neck... ! I've never opened a neck before!!

please HELP me decide! :P

My opinion
FIRST) Fender STR-VC / BTP / 2010 as you said "limited run, super comfy 9.5" , slim C, HSS "
but if you want that vintage thing
Second) Fender Japan Classic 50s Daphne Blue, I like the color
Third) Fender Japan Old Lake Placid Blue it's OK
or just get all three

What do you mean the truss rod is inside the neck and having to open up the neck? That doesn't make sense to me. I probably don't understand your comment. I like the look of the last two guitars over the first one. Can you really tell that much difference in the neck radius?

I would bet he is talking about the 50's style truss rod which is accessed via the neck heal and neck is removed to make adjustments, and the Fender STR-VC / BTP / 2010 has the adjustment by the head stock
