Fender doesn't need to "defend their trademark"... I paid them to make it for me. Certificate of authenticity included! Thought it was a chromed Fender and Stratocaster logo on the headstock, but they told me it's very highly polished nickel. As are the fret wires likewise highly polished. As a recent custom build, they did a beautiful job, I think.

Ah, my apologies. I took "Yes, I made it" as meaning that you were the one who physically made it.

The question now is "how does it play?". I would imagine that with that many pickups, they have to be lowered to not cumulatively kill sustain?
And that with the miles of wiring this needs, it has to be extra shielded so it won't pick up radio interference?

That is quite a project; you must have quite a collection to go the custom shop with an idea like this. It must have cost a fortune (I would love to know how much). Did you go to them and say I want a strat with all possible pick-up combinations (single coil/humbucking etc) with switches, tone and volume controls to match, or did you go in with your own wiring diagram and say make this. I can’t imagine what the routing must look like.

Opening this case to reveal your axe to others for the first time must have quite the responses. Reminds me of popping the hood on a rod. Very coooool. 8)

How about this CS Tele/Strat double neck (though not a 6/12 string)?

The most ingenious 6/12 guitar must be the Rickenbacker 366/12, where you could pull down six of the strings to use it as a 6-string:

The big flaw with this system is for people who bend - the pulled down strings would make bending harder, not easier, when engaged.

Well arth1, that something I've never seen. Since the 360/12 is impossible to play except for a select few (Roger McGuinn, George Harrison, etc), perhaps the 6 string option might work. I love the sound of Rickenbackers, but I just can't play them.

This variation of the Ric was introduced sometime in late '67 or early '68 -- I remember seeing the announcement of it in Guitar Player magazine. Apparently it was only marginally successful since by 1970 it was no longer catalogued and apparently discontinued.

As for the Tele/Strat combo the weight calls for a stand or back brace IMHO. As for the Ric - it looks to be a setup nightmare. :?
Thanks, for the posts on these chromeface and arthl. Pretty interesting stuff.
