A short update. I guess I got caught up in Fender's move to start making parts in China, so no one could get me a neck plate or a Steel block. Ended up ordering a steel block from GFS, which has now arrived. Maybe this weekend I finally get started with getting the parts installed.

Pics to follow as I do the install.

Well I must say updating a guitar is sure turning out to be a much more frustrating task than any of my amp projects have been...

White Pickup covers installed
White knobs painted the appropriate color installed
Pat Pending Bridge Saddles installed
Single line Kluson Deluxe Tuners installed
GFS Steel Bridge supposed to be the correct size...wasn't. After measuring was NOT the correct spacing. Frustration level high after three different orders with the correct spacing for a MIM 50's Classic NOT delivered. I have decided to keep it, for another project that might come along and reinstalled the original block...that was only 1/4 ounce difference in weight.

Here are a few pics of parts installed. I still have yet to get the neck plate, but will get it stamped once it becomes available. Seems to me the only source I have been able to trust on this project has been a certain luddite out west...every part sourced from him has worked PERFECTLY! You are one reliable guy Arjay!

If I'd known that the neckplate would be such a ballbuster to find, I'd have sent one along with the other parts, Tony.

Looking good!

Thanks, who knew that and the block would be such a PITA! I have an old neck plate that is scratched up quite a bit, I may just pull the original off, send it to get stamped and just use the scratched one until it comes back. Amps sure were easier to source parts for that's for sure!

I'm curious as to if the neck plate you ordered will be steel or brass.

You might check it with a magnet when it arrives.

I have to admit to having tuner envy.

That won't necessarily tell him; not all steels are paramagnetic (magnets stick).
To complicate it, some platings are paramagnetic, especially nickel plating, which sometimes is called chrome even if it isn't.
So you could have a steel plate where a magnet doesn't stick, and a brass plate where it does. But if a magnet sticks hard, it's likely not brass.

He's been at this a long time. Trust me, he *knows* the difference.

Oh, I'm sure! I'm more concerned about some future reader coming in here, having found a 100% Authentic !!1! part on e-bay, and thinking that since a magnet doesn't stick to it, it must be brass... :)

When he picks up a neck plate and it hefts like plastic, he'll immediately know it's brass. And if he doesn't, then he likely doesn't care.
