I replaced my pickup covers and knobs (Painted like the originals, not the gold they use today) and I really like the look. Much more authentic to a 50s Stratocaster, the knobs and pickup covers never turned yellow on those guitars. A little comparison:

Arjay did up the knobs for me, can't thank him enough! Now I might add a set actual Klusons.

It is a great adventure and I wish you all the best in it. I've learnt so much doing Odee. It really helps you to appreciate, and understand, all those subtle differences that make the vintage guitars so special.
It also gives an insight into what new features are just marketing fluff and what might actually be worthwhile when getting a modern Strat. Everyone should do it.

Is that a MIJ or a MIM.
For further authenticity you need a set of Fender '54 Custom pickups with bevelled magnets.
The lettering was gold, but turn bluey green with age (sweat and all).
I say all this, because I have gone through it all with my MIJ 50s and 60s.

Haven't done the knobs. My 71 has real blue green.

Added to the list! Now give up the source! As for the pickup change, IF I decide to change pickups it will be fat 50's for sure. I actually like the pickups in this one, they have great quack to em!

Thanks for the tips, some things I hadn't considered!

If you decide to replace your pickups, give some consideration as well to swapping out the tone cap for a PIO type of .022 mfd or .033 mfd. The lower value provides for a smoother roll-off of the highs and less perceived loss of gain when you back off the tone controls to any degree.

"Pat. Pend" Saddles! Great thought Arjay! This is shaping up to be a good project. Now if they would just put the butterfly string guide in the right place (closer to the nut) like it is supposed to be!

It's seems only Fuji-Gen in Japan got that detail correct, as well as the new AVS Strats from Corona.

Yeah my Domestic 62 Olympic White Strat is the only one I have that has it in the correct spot! But I guess that is a detail I will have to live with...well that and the lack of depth of the body curves as compared to a vintage 50s Strat, but the color sure makes up for it!

Indeed!

I love those repro custom Duco finishes. I'd like to see Fender update the color options, especially for the 60's Classic Series. Ice Blue Metallic would surely be nice......
