I have two Strats. One has the 57/61s, and the other is fitted with Burstbucker hbs. The BB bridge is nice, but the neck pup is a bit heavy and bassy for my liking.

I want to go back to a single coil pup.

I get great vintagy sounds from the other Strat, and what I'm looking for is for a full, thick tone, nothing nasal. I'm not against the hb single coils.

I play everything from jazz to country, but this guitar doesn't have to cover all the bases.

My amps are a DRRI and a Marshall JVM410h/1960AV.

Get yourself a Les Paul and fit it with Super Distortion Humbuckers.

Try Fat 50's in the neck & middle... and a DiMarzio FS-1 in the bridge. That's the setup in the "Edge" signature strat. 25% more output and a slightly thicker sound (without going full humbucker)

Amalfitano SVL Daytona pickup set. It's what Matt Schofield uses.

If this is to replace the neck burstbucker. Why not try a humbucker sized P90?

I never use neck humbuckers, ever. You end up dialling your amp in for one sound to suit that mud

Howdy, Rog. Good to see you again--hope you've been healthy and happy. I have such a wonderful Les Paul with Classic 57s and couldn't be happier with it. I'm just looking for something Stratty but thick.

Thanks for the suggestions. I seem to remember an old friend playing a Strat with Hot Rails that sounded good--going through a couple of Ibanez Tube Screamers. Don't know how good they sound without the TSes.

In that case, take a look at what DiMarzio has to offer. Their Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues and Heavy Blues 2 pickups are superb. With a Virtual Solo at the bridge that should yield all the beef you need.

I'm going to check out DiMarzio. I've never really considered them, but DiMarzios have been recommended to me several times over the last few years. I've heard great things about the Yngwies--for classic rock.

The Yngwie's are pretty heavy through the mids -- might be just the ticket for you.
