Thanks for all the comments. I don't have a grinder so that would be the expensive option!

The kit comes with 1/4" screws for the E strings and 5/16" screws for everything else so I guess, when I think about it, it is only the B and A strings that might need shorter screws.

You can also do it with a hacksaw (to cut) and file (to clean it up). Either way it needs care, but it's not difficult!

Life is too short to spend time cutting/grinding/filing screws when I can buy them. OK, so they might be a fraction of a millimetre too long but I am prepared to take that risk.

I decided to buy the upgrade and some extra 1/4" screws. Arrived today but not yet fitted.
