I just bought a new - never been played - neck from a '57 Hot Rod 2008 guitar and I was wondering if that should have come ready to play or is it recommended to have a level and dress done?

Reason I ask is that I bought Warmoth neck last year for a different project and it was clearly stated that it still required a level and dress before being ready to be played.

TIA,

Steve

The HotRod 57 is a very nice guitar indeed - as I suspect nikininja is writing to tell you even as I'm typing this. If that neck needs a fret dress before it's even been played then something very wrong is going on.

But where did you buy it? Stratosphere? Someone is breaking down HotRods to sell the parts? Shame on them...

Something very wrong is indeed going on

Cheers - C

Theres no way that should need dressing. A new neck for a project is a different matter. Its got to match whatever body its put to, and i suppose you can buy them in varying stages of completion.

The neck did come from Stratosphere on eBay and I got EJ body for it to go on and CS69 pickups. All the parts are Fender, American made.

It does seem very weird that they're taking these guitars apart and selling the parts.

Thanks for the replies.

i checked out stratosphere today, if you price the parts to build for example a eric johnson strat they look well overpriced. The prices for a complete signature guitar look nearer to english prices. so the import tax our wonderfull goverment charges us for american guitars is lining stratospheres pockets regardless of where you live.

It started out as a deal because I found a Jimmy Vaughn body with the EMG-DG20 pickup I won for $300. Then that fell through but I'd already bought this fine neck, so what could I do? :)
