White looks great with any red and most blues (Sonic, Daphne, Lake Placid, etc).

Oh, so right on that selection, Arjay. I have to say that the Mother of Pearl pickguard looked terrific on the original '62 Daphne Blue Strat I once held and played back in '64. The other day I saw the 2016 Daphne Blue Special Edition '60s Stratocaster with matching headstock. It has a mint pickguard and it too looks terrific.

If it sounds as good as it looks, Fender has a winner IMHO.

I went minty. Not 100% in love with it but better than black. I may yet try all black but see how this grows on me.

I am loving the CS Texas Specials over the TexMex in it originally. They seem to sound better in this than in Odee, perhaps because they didn't suit the style of Odee.

I originally thought leave it as it is but the new one brings something out in the grain and looks great. :D

Thank you for your comments. I certainly like it more than the black and cream/antique white. However, on it's stand in the lounge the minty colour comes over much stronger than it does in other lights which can be a bit off putting. It is a shame Fender don't do a guard that actually matches the antique white.

You have a beautiful Strat as is, John.
Not suggestions, more like thoughts: Would a clear guard work? Failing that, I can picture your mint guard as the base for a talented artist to do some appropriate reduced colour and minimal scrolling of tree branches and leaves, or perhaps a vine with leaves, or grapes, or . . .

In any case, you have something special, and it's great the tones meet your expectations. Enjoy.

I voted something else.
The first thing that came to my mind was tortoise shell.

I voted "something else" too. Wood goes well with mother-of-toilet-seat:

Both sound proposals, and the pearl particular might work well, but I'm not a great one for bling on Strats. It looks great on Teles because of the whole rind-stone cowboy vibe but Strats are a bit more "tools of the trade" get on and use it and abuse it.

Of the clear proposal, or etched or painted decoration, I did ponder some fretwork (as in cutting decorative shaped holes with a fret saw not fitting frets). It could work but it might also be a pain in the butt if I were to keep catching my pick in the holes.

I've decided just to get on and play it for the moment. I might try and get a look at a parchment guard but, from what I have read, they are closer to white than cream which isn't where I want to go. I want to maintain my "all Fender parts" rule for this one as it was part of the project brief when I bought it ... can I make a MiM as good or better than a MiA?

I would say I have exceeded that goal but my most recent Strats are noticeably lighter and this feels a bit cumbersome by comparison.

I voted for the black on black. It was a classic style in the 70's and it has a bit of that vibe to it. I think the black tends show off the wood grain better as it is a contrast to that fabulous body.

I wanted very badly to vote for mint but would have to see it before I could vote for it, not sure how it would look on that wood.

so I voted other and would say white tortoise with white.

or mint

Well after a week being Mint and Aged White (AKA cream) I must say my reservations have almost all gone. I look at it on the stand and think "That looks pretty damn cool and classy".

It is much nicer than the original Black and Cream and my possible alternative of Black and Black would perhaps have looked too heavy and agresive.

Well I was never completely sold on the mint as it looked very green in certain lighting.

So now we have Parchment and Aged White. This does seem to be a popular standard combination with a lot of 2017 models.

Again though, subject to the light, the parchment will look white and the aged white very cream.

I quite like the contrast with the PUP's but the knobs look a bit messy. I may yet try parchment and parchment or just change the knobs and switch tip.

Elegant and understated.

I think it looks great, John!
