Although, I played a Strat briefly in the '60s (not well except for simple 3 chord songs of which there were many), in recent years I found myself back to a Strat. Imagine having experience on a 12 string and gravitating to a compound radius neck. Chording was left to a demo by a salesman until I knew I could do it for myself.

Well, before you could say Eric Clapton I walked out with a beautiful tungsten Strat which not only had been set up, and light, but found a home with a church on the weekends.

It wasn't long before I settled in to play chords at will up and down the neck. I was in Strat heaven. At least I thought so. After seeing a neighbour's taxi cab in the same colour I lost my close relationship with the new member of our family.

Back to the store, Long story short, new guitar (same as the first), different colour, looked great, but this one did not feel as good. Smart enough to get a setup for the string height and tremolo, later to have some fretwork because of humidity, I am happy to say it was a good decision to say goodbye to my first friend.

So to simplify, the senses will tell you what is right for you. Playability with a good setup and the sound is definitely important; but. never forget the mojo. It'll grow on you or (as in my first case) it won't, and no tech can fix that.

Break a leg.

Play every guitar you can find in your price range in every reasonably nearby store and buy the one that speaks to you. A mixture of looks, feel, and sound. You'll know when you find it. And you won't have to ask any of us our opinions. You'll just know.

Don't buy the Squire over any of the other 3. There is a reason Squire is Fenders budget range. It's not that they are bad guitars by any means but just don't.
