Hello All,
I orderded some Gotoh vintage tuners for my 2005 Mexi Standard Strat. I also ordered some Kluson adapter bushings to convert the existing holes in the headstock. The bushings fit perfectly when I place them in the headstock, BUT, the inside diameter of the bushing is incorrect. I ordered the bushing with the 1/4" ID because I read that was the size of the shaft on the tuners. Now, it seems like the shafts have a diameter of 6mm. Dang! the shafts are just a little bit smaller than the bushings.
The bushings that came with the tuners obviously fit the shafts of the tuners perfectly, but the OD of the bushing is too small for the holes. Now, I could wrap the OD of the included bushings with plumbers tape to make them fit the headstock holes, but the Kluson bushings just fit soooo well in the headstock holes.

So, finally, I arrive at my question. Would you:
1. use the Kluson bushings with a small gap (approx. .3mm) between the shaft and the ID of the bushing.
or
2. use the bushings that came with the tuners and wrap them with plumbers tape to make them fit in the headstock, but the shaft/ID of the bushing fits perfectly. (If I do this, I would probably return the other bushings and try to order a set with an ID of 6mm.)

Thanks!

Mac

Plumber's tape is an inappropriate medium for such an application. Better to use some .005" brass shim stock. Most hardware stores stock it and it's easily trimmed into strips which can easily be coiled to fit the holes in your headstock.
