I finally pulled the trigger and nabbed a true relic in this all original 1955 Stratocaster. I actually got it a few months ago but waited 'till I had a decent performance video to unveil it. It is very light weight - under 7 lbs - and has a fantastic soft V neck having very much the shape and thick profile of the American Vintage '56 necks. It is nicely worn. -Marty

If it gets any better than that I cannot fathom how.

:D

What an exquisite tone!

How about a still photo gallery, Nokie?

Excellent Marty, it sounds wonderful, I can't imagine that beautiful vintage strat belonging to a more capable pair of hands, congrats! I second Arjay on the detailed pics please, also did you get the original tweed case with it? did you trade a couple guitars in on the deal?

That guitar certainly earns a HOLY MOLY SCHMOKES on the T2 Scale! Nice playin on that video piece too. But Marty with those glasses you just got to rip off some killer Buddy Holly tunage!

Thanks guys! Yes, I did get the original case. It looks like it went down with the Titanic and is missing the center pocket but all latches and the handle are in good working order even if they are well worn. The tweed has disassembled across part of the top of the case and hangs like a horses mane. However, Gary Myrick (of The Figures fame) saw it at a recent gig and thought it was the coolest case he'd ever seen - just when I was about to replace it with a new one.

I didn't trade anything in on it - just paid it in full. However I do intend to help offset the cost by selling a number of guitars and have just sold a '62 AVRI Jazzmaster in surf green.

Ah yes, Buddy Holly indeed. I have everything he ever did. I'll have to give something of his a try on this guitar. Buddy's first Strat was a '55 (his second was a '58). You'll see the '55 in photos with the plastic worn off on the lower side of the neck and middle pickup covers. My '55 also has a bit of plastic worn off on the top side of the bridge and middle pickup covers. Interestingly, I'll be backing up George Tomsco of the Fireballs (Sugar Shack was their biggest hit) this coming weekend. The Fireballs were the band that Norman Petty used to electrify Buddy Holly demos after Buddy died. Yes, it's of questionable taste and ethics but those posthumous recordings sound great.

A still gallery will follow soon.
-Marty

Ditto what the guys said above without reservation.

Really looking forward to seeing some detail pictures and delighted for you in your purchase. More so that the guitar is being used as intended and not hung on a wall like some sort of hunting trophy.
