One way of finding out is getting with someone that knows alot about setting a guitar up.
If you can take the neck off... (have someone with experience help u)
u will likely see some information stamped or written on the neck
like this maybe:

Try to figure out if it is all original parts and if it is a fender then what's serial number?

It's probably a better idea to take it to a smaller independent place than a big chain. They are likly to help more, be more knowledgable, and charge less for a job like this.

The important thing is how it sound, plays and feels...not if it's a genuine fender.

If thats the original neck, chances are it's not a Fender. Those don't appear to be Fender tuners. A pic ot the back of the headstock & where the neck bolts on would be helpful. However, the tuners look like the stock ones on my 1982 Ibanez Iceman.

All of that is true.

However, I fear that is not a real Fender. We have seen those tuner keys here a few times recently, and they seem to mean: Far East fake-ocaster.

I strongly suspect you have a Korean made Aria from the 70s or 80s. Under that black paint that someone has so cunningly dressed the headstock and fingerboard (!) with will be an Aria logo - hence the, er, "refin".

Take a glance at this thread from May (how did I remember that? Get a life, Ceri):

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... php?t=9035

Now, obviously that other headstock is different than yours, but look at the tuners. Then work through the thread: people have posted links to pictures of other Arias, and, shazzam, they're yours, excepting the headstock. And those of us old enough to remember can assure you that fake Fender shaped headstocks were the stock-in-trade of Aria, Tokai and others at that time, before Fender called in the lawyers.

Which is why I think it's probably a 1970s job: before the legal action when Aria had to start putting distinctly non-Fender pegheads on their knock-offs.

(In fact, they went on to have something of a brief golden era in the 80s, once they stopped ripping off others. And then largely faded again...)

Sorry it wasn't better news. :(

Cheers - C

Let's face it, that neck is pretty horrible in every possible way. Get yourself down to Ebay where you will find genuine Fender necks, logos and all, from guitars stripped down for their parts.

You may not care for the prices you are likely to find, however. That's because there is no such thing as an after-sale Fender-made neck, so "reclaimed" ones command a certain premium.

Then what you may want instead is a new Fender Licensed neck (with no logo, but that is fine), which you will find by Googling vendors such as:

WD Music
Warmoth
Mighty Mite
Stewart MacDonald

And several more whose names momentarily elude me.

Just don't even think of putting a fake Fender logo on an unbranded neck. That's just cheap. (Uh-uh: here we go again...)

Good luck - C

Ebay has a LOT of Strat stuff. If I were you, I'd just strip the neck & put 1 of the 2 P'guards you have the link to on it. Nuthin wrong with no logo on the neck.

you cant just put a quality neck on any old body and have a quality guitar. If your really not happy with the guitar save it as a momento of your ancestor and save for a new one. you could make the guitar worse by putting a different neck on it. Guitars gol through aload of checks before they are released to the public, some more than others years ago, but that gap is closing now.
