I have a Stratocaster that I bought new and I would like to have it professionally set up. About how much should I expect to pay?

Anywhere from $15 to $40 at a local shop

I paid $40 o get mine set-up. Depending where you bought it, some places give you 1 free set-up in the first 90 days of purchase. I know Daddy's Junky Music does that....

I noticed you bought it new. The shop you bought it from should give you a free set-up

It depends on how "pro" the "pro" is that does it. I'll do it for people that I know for $25. + any parts needed.

Ronnie Earl pays more than 4x that to have his old Broadcaster bass player turned guitar tech do it.

$75 is perfectly reasonable if the work includes, among other things like tweaking a truss rod, raising/lowering bridge saddles and setting the intonation, any cutting or shimming of the nut and filing of the bridge saddles or cutting/shimming the bridge.

I'd ask for a detailed list of the work to be performed before paying that much and always remember to ask for any old parts that may have to be replaced.

Mike is absolutley right. I was talking about a generic set-up but a more detailed work and the better the guitar tech is the more expensive it gets. like everything else , you get what you pay for

Most places will do a setup for. When I do them I charge 35.00 to set factory specs, pickup height, string height at 17th fret, bridge height, relief at 7th, check the nut action from string to top 1st fret, tune.and wipe down.

Do whatever you can along the way to learn about your setup...
The idea is to be able to handle maybe atleast some of the tweeks yourself eventually...
No rush though, take ur time...

I recently had a complete setup on two of my guitars at a Authorized Fender Service Center. When I was out price looking, the average price seemed to be about $65
