The fourth knob controls the volume for the piezos.

This guitar has the "Elite" circuitry to fatten up the Laces.

Oh I am aware of what it does, but I,m not sure I like it's placement, kind of just in the middle of nowhere, just stuck there with out thought, to me it just looks out of place

Does it have low shear neck screws so that you can smash it up night after night and put it back together the morning after?

Townshend has been playing the same Torino Red Strat since the late '80s / early '90s, so his days of being hard on guitars are apparently over. 8)

On the recent US tour though he was using three different Strats - the Torino Red one reproduced here the majority of the time; a gold-colored one; and a black one. All apparently started off as Clapton Strats with the mid-boost circuit and the Lace Sensors, then had the Fishman bridge and its control added, and finally the Clapton signature decal removed since they weren't really that model anymore. And Townshend bought the guitars; there was never an endorsement deal.

I thought his tone on the recent tour was very good (and the show I saw was very, very good) but I still think his tone as captured on Live at Leeds was his best - Gibson SG with P-90s through Hiwatts.

I would love to pick one of these up - I'm a huge Townshend / Who fan - but unless a rich uncle dies or I hit the lottery, I'm not holding my breath :x

+1

Runner up on best Townsend tone belongs to "Who's Next".

Arjay

Gretsch Chet Atkins through a '59 Bassman, both a gift from Joe Walsh after the James Gang toured with the Who in 1970. Townshend used that rig as his main studio setup for the rest of the '70s, but continued to use the Hiwatts live with modified Les Pauls starting with the Who's Next tour.

Congrats Pete Townshend, about time Fender immortalized you in a fast red Strat, and for not selling out on your Lace Sensor Golds. Hang about, I'll just put me old mum up for auction so I can get one, she'll be sweet, go fast red's her fave color too.
