Have only had the guitar for one day. Restrung with 009s. Was going to try .010s but what came with it were shot, and I can't bend them anyway. The guitar took the 9s well no issues. The low E is way too low and buzzing. It's also not centered. Almost off the fret board at upper frets. I may try to get tool to adjust to use it today, before getting a complete setup. It is high off the board. Does create (acoustically) good sound. You can dive in and it gets better - not broken up if you know what I mean.

Initial impressions:
Cons:
Neck - was expecting the large C. Find it uncomfortable. 2006 strat modern is preferred.
Tuners - first exposure to vintage - where are the holes? They work great, look great, but modern ones are preferred.
Case - need a hard case. Gig bag isn't my style.
Pros:
Sound - sounds great! Unplugged so far. Noticed pups are low to the board. Heard that's good for these low outputs so the setup looks okay so far with these. Orig owner changed to vintage style colors of knobs / covers so they were adjusted at some point.
Fit finish - really great. Neck finish feels great. Nice burst. Great rosewood board. Not much play so I guess it's up to me to break this one in!

I think I'll warm to neck and it will feel better after setup. I like vintage 21 fret neck and truss rod from body. Love the tone of this guitar. Once through my 68 Custom Vibrolux the pickups should be a good sound being an upgrade. I'll post more soon. Back to practicing!

Not sure what tool that would be? You MIGHT try loosening the neck screws slightly and seeing if the neck will move (in the pocket) enough to centralise the strings. But the vintage trem spacing DOES put the strings closer to the fretboard edge, and you might be finding it awkward if you're used to modern spacing?

Re your tuners - "where are the holes?". In the middle; you poke the string end down the hole in the post. Although I don't currently have these, I do like them as they work well and there's no sharp ends sticking out!

Cheers - Peter.

Thanks Pete!

Yes on the tuners I had checked you tube and I did put the string in the top hole to get them started. It just caught me off guard. Seems like this requires the pre cut so not sure how you could replace a string in a pinch without cutters (you know leave the extra string at the pegs).

Played new strat last night. It was great. Learned new Dead songs and it really shined. The pickups are really nice. Not the huge contrast like my other Am. Not much treble in them. Neck felt comfortable. Stayed in perfect tune all night. Two strings tweaked once. It's stable.

Picked up a case at geetar center. Fender full size all black. Had case candy too for one hundred. Holds guitar tightly. Put on Dunlop strap locks with no mods. Got tool that had the Allen wrench to fit bridge string screws. I tried doing outer higher to bring string back in. It worked but this morning it seems to be the same. I think a setup would be in order and it's not much to ask. I did get the last e string height up by eye and feel and that got me to playing it last night as my number one. Great axe.

Update - I had the guitar in for a setup. Took almost two weeks. Went from the shop straight to practice. What a difference. The sixth string is the right height and it isn't running of the fret board. It played so much better. Easier to play. The guy was very complimentary a second time when picking it up. He spoke very highly of it.

Lots of talk at practice sounded good. Band mate bought his 06? Us standard. Trouble with tone through my hot rod. Tinty ice picky I put bass all up treble at zero still trebly. Switched him to first drive channel which tamed it a bit. He switched over to the Mayer and it had the fuller darker tone. So nice. He proceeded to rip off several songs on it. I also had a good rip at the solo for Pink Floyd Time. Sounded great. Very happy with it.

Great stuff, TC!

I've only ever had 1 pro setup done, and that came as part of the package on my Special after it was refretted with medium jumbos. Great job, and I haven't changed a thing! This chap charges (from) £40 for a setup and it's well worth it. Despite the fact that I can do it, I can't do it so well so quickly!

All the best - Peter.

Strat plays and sounds excellent. Although used it felt like it broke in after a few long days of playing. Stays in tune. Rosewood is very nice too.

The sound is vintage. Crank up a tube amp to get it going. Tube screamers are perfect. Don't hear much hum while using the low input Jack. No ice pick tones, it's more muted. The pickups and your attack really help achieve great tones.

Had my les Paul out and thought I'd jam awhilewith it, but quickly missed the JM and went back. It's a great guitar.
