I agree, if I could go back, I would save a lot of money and skip the masterbuilt 50th 1954 and would have waited and bought a 60th 1954 when they came out. IMHO the AV series are the best Fenders I've had, including Custom shop, masterbuilt and vintage, and I've had many (and I like them vintage correct, no stamps also).

John, I procrastinated in 2004 with the 50th anniv. wanted one bad, but didn't pull the trigger, a couple years later the bug bit me hard, but by then only used ones were available at high prices. It took me months to find a good one. In 2014 the 60th's came out, same deal, wanted one bad, but couldn't justify it while having the 50th. if this local deal goes through saturday I will have one for a fraction of the original price with nice grain, light weight, with plastic still on the guard, as new.

Update, I picked up the 60th 54' today, 4 hours round trip, but well worth it.I spent the last couple hours setting it up, needed a turn on the truss rod, and saddle adjustments. This is one of the best deals I've gotten, got it for an almost stupid price, never used, came from a collector, plastic still on front and back plate, stickers on the neck plate, 0 fret wear and still has the original strings on that are like brand new! I will take some pics in the morning, almost hate to remove the plastic... but I'm going to play this, not save it. Acoustically this thing just rings, incredible sustain, the neck is FAT, no taper, but plays wonderful.Might be a bit before I can put it through an amp, they are at a different location at the moment, but judging how this thing sounds unplugged I'm betting it's great.

Great score! That is a beautiful guitar. I love the grain in the wood. Nice case too. Congrats and enjoy!

That's a beauty for sure! I like that they didn't put the 60th Anniversary embroidery on the inside lid of the case - again in the interest of period correctness - and it's the thicker case. The case candy on the '54 is especially fun.

When these first came out I went to try one and walked out with a AV 56' blonde, I felt the neck was too fat on the 60th 54' and I had the 50th 54' already. Now I'm really liking this one and after a set up it plays beautifully , it vibrates my whole rib cage when strummed, a real live one. After hearing Fender did away with the AV line I had to get one, now having a 54', a 56' and a maple neck 59' I'm set.(I prefer maple necks or a 65' would have been next/also my birth year)

I had a very similar experience back in 2014. I was at a Guitar Center checking out a new '54 AV 60th and was ready to purchase when my wife spotted a '56 AV on the used wall. It was only 1300 clams and was in perfect shape. It was a no-brainer on several accounts: The '56 neck is my fav, I already had the '54 MB 50th, and best of all, I would receive less complaint from my wife buying a guitar that was half the price of the new one I was considering. Never-the-less, a year later I saw another '54 AV 60th and being that it was a limited edition and played so nicely, I nabbed that one. One note of caution on these 60th Anniversary AV's is that the knobs are very sensitive to temperature changes and crack very easily. Yes, Fender went for a plastic in composition similar to the original 1954 formula but they went too far this time. I've had no trouble with the knobs on the 50th anniversary but the 60th is a different story. I've had several crack (I also have the Heavy Relic 60th - knobs cracked easily on that one as well). Crazy glue has been in regular use but then the knobs crack in a different place! However, the fact that your knobs haven't cracked in 3 or four years is a good sign.

Well my 50th 54' has been played a lot for about 13 years and the knobs have not cracked this 60th has been kept unplayed in the case since 2014, and the day after I bought it I noticed a tone knob had developed a large crack, the next day the other tone knob followed suit. I have already purchased the pure vintage 54' replacement parts pack and it is being shipped as we speak. Fender did use a different material to produce these, and they are far too brittle. I think you are correct, the change in temperature cracked them both. All in all I am really happy with the 60th and considering I paid $1400 for an unplayed example of a no longer available limited edition I can live with a few cracked knobs.(I went ahead and removed all the protective plastic from the pick guards this one is a keeper)

1400 is a great price on that geetar!! I recommend you keep the replacement set of knobs tucked away and go the crazy glue route on the existing knobs. The replacements won't crack until put on the guitar - that was my experience as I had to purchase a second set of replacements when the 1st replacements also cracked. The replacements in the package have weathered the temp changes of the past couple of years just fine - no cracking. I'll have 'em if I ever intend to sell the guitar (not seein' that happen ever) or just for the peace of mind.

That's a good idea, if the knobs that are on it fall apart, I will super glue them and save the new ones, as of now, as long as they hold together even with the cracks I will leave them be. As far as the price, I couldn't pass this up, it's really a buyers market. Down side is I thought about selling my 50th 54', but watched Ebay and they are even selling very low right now.

That is the sad state of affairs with respect to the guitar market. Millennials are just into other things. Video games are more their speed and if they're into music at all, they can hit a couple of buttons on the computer and "create" electronic dance music. Their peers dig it so why take the time and effort to learn the guitar? - it's only gonna play their parents music. The big guitar companies and Guitar Center are all experiencing major debt and beyond dismal credit ratings. The guitar scene needs a shot in the arm ala The Beatles or Elvis!
