Hi

My strat has a E string saddle screw to E string saddle screw width of 54mm.

I have a replacement bridge/tremolo set which is 56.5mm.

(How much) Will that matter?

So you have a modern Strat and have bought a vintage-spaced bridge? Well, obviously it'll put the two E strings closer to the edge of the fretboard. Personally I don't like that, because I'm a messy player and the top E would keep sliding off the edge, so I have to stick with modern spacing! But if you have a better technique than me, or you don't do any vibrato/bending on the E's, you might be OK with it. Try it and see!

P/up-wise - if you were also considering this - I don't think you'll find it makes any difference.

Cheers - Peter.

Yes, a 1988/89 Japanese Strat. The bridge chosen was based on the recommendation from a supplier, but I was expecting the bridge to arrive with the same saddle width.

I had considered but actually wasn't worried about this, but thank you for the encouraging words. :)

Cheers, Peter.

Before you do anything irreversible, check that everything else fits - like screw holes etc.
If the supplier didn't know/ask your string spread, the bridge he/she/it recommended may not be the best replacement.

They did, because I asked them to make the recommendation based on the width of my saddle screws, and age/type of my Stratocaster. :)

OK, in that case I'll edit my previous: If the supplier didn't know/ask/care about your string spread etc.

But you get my drift; choosing the right parts is often what makes the difference between a relatively easy bridge replacement (Note: I'm not saying "drop-in") and a PIA one where you have to plug/redrill/route/grind etc. in every possible place.

I absolutely get your drift, yes. :)

I'm sure the bridge will fit the body (screw holes, etc). What I still don't know is whether the extra 1.25mm on the E strings width each side is going to matter to the 'playability' of the guitar.
