I have a MIM std Strat (sn: MZ4064899) with rosewood fretboard, sunburst. I like it a lot (especially after i did the latest setup), and i was thinking about the white plastic parts on the guitar. On for example the EJ or the CP 50's the knobs, switch tip and pickup covers are aged, but not the pickguard. My guitar is the other way. The pickguard is yellowing a lot, and the pickup covers, switch tip and knobs are really white. Is this normal? And if so, why are the guitars mentioned above aged that way?

It's just the "accessory kit" used, more or less. Fender makes knobs, covers, etc. in different colors: black, white, parchment, and aged white. I have the aged white on my MIA...

It has yellowed over time.. due to exposure to the sun and such i guess. My thought is "why hasn't the other parts gone yellow too?".

The pickguard is made of celluloid, the other parts of – er – another sort of plastic (help, anyone?). Different plastics react differently to light, especially the UV part of the spectrum. Sometimes, different colouring agents in the same type of plastic react differently.

Many people would feel that look you have is very desirable and so imitate it with “aged” new parts. You have the real thing. Wear you Strat with pride!

Cheers - C

One such colouring agent is coffee ... try soaking those too-white knobs in coffee to get them off-white.

Thank you! That made me feel proud of my Rosie! I like this look, because it's "natural". There is also some serious wear on the neck, down by the heel and on the backplate (yep, on the backplate) which i love!

Strong (hot) coffee works relativity fast. Maybe ten minuets...
