The really weird thing is that Blackmore was working with Coverdale to do a Rainbow/Purple thing, then that fell apart resulting in Coverdale releasing the recent Whitesnake "Purple" album (a re-do of Coverdale's Deep Purple stuff) which included a U.S. tour to support it. Blackmore was also having similar conversations with Joe Lynn Turner (one of the former Rainbow vocalists) and that fell through too. My guess is that Blackmore did not want to give up the larger financial share that Coverdale or Turner would get.

I had heard that Blackmore could be a difficult guy to work with. Perhpas they just couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

As a slight aside/preponderance - in every other field you get better over the years and yet, in music so many people seem to hit a sweet spot early on (granted that early on might be ten years in) but never achieve the same perfection subsequently....perhaps money and all the vices that provides has an impact.

Absolutely, John. Personally I think it's the fact that it becomes a job, and therefore no longer as enjoyable as it was. Controversial no doubt, but I've never thought the Stones were as good as they were as good as they were in the late 60's. Likewise Rod Stewart in the early 70's. The only big star I can think of who doesn't mess the songs around and still gives 100% is The Boss (just a pity about the foul mouth he seems to have developed).

What all this has to do with Strats I don't know!!!

Cheers - Peter.
