Hi folks, the horrible situation that has occurred to many I'm sture happened to me last year... I had to sell much of my gear owing to unemployment, to pay bills, and the two guitars I wanted to sell least we're the first to go - my 62HR and my Martin 000-28ec. The work situation has improved a little, but I now find myself thinking I'd happily sell every bit of guitar related equipment I have to have quality versions of them again. Does anyone know of a mint condition hot rod 62 for sale (I'm in Scotland if that matters)? Alternatively, what kind of up-charge would Fender require to make me one? Is Custom Shop the only option? The whole package was great, and I know there are comparable models, but it was the neck that was the killer! Thanks in advance...

For a brand new one Custom Shop is your only option - there really isn't anything quite like that Hot Rod '62 neck, and the model has been out of production since the fall of 2013. I suppose you might be able to find one in stock somewhere - one USA dealer happens to have some Hot Rods left in stock - but the only model from the original series is the old Hot Rod '52 Tele. On the Strat side all they have is a handful of the 2013-2014 series, none of the older Hot Rod '62 Strats.

I would suggest to keep scouring ebay and other similar sites (does Reverb have UK/EU listings?) to see if you could turn one up.

Thanks John C, custom shop may be the way to go (as long as they're not too expensive); also, thanks Stratmangler, I have actually handled one of these in gg in Glasgow and they are nice but the neck was still a bit wimpy (but not as bad as the modern 'C') :-)

Close, but that is not a 62 Hot Rod. :(

+1

If not, have you tried Ebay and other secondary-market venues?

Thanks for the replies guys: I did actually track it down to Northern Ireland via the South of England 2 or 3 weeks ago, but the chap in Newry, Co. Down, sold it before I could scrape the cash together (I asked him to wait an extra week, but he quite rightly sold to the first person to offer the asking price; he was asking silly money compared to what they go for second-hand, but I tried). Ebay and other markets have them very rarely, and usually not just worn but abused. I can't even find a neck similar in the UK as an aftermarket item. Still, I am keeping my eyes peeled anyway...
