Still in bits at the moment. Another couple of weeks before I can buff it down. Thankfully I will be away for most of that so something to look forward to on my return.

Looking less new than when I removed them from the package but still need another 20 years adding to them.

Somewhat less odious now.

The trip to the freezer achieved nothing. It might be that the original lacquer was too well cured now or the new lacquer had an elastomer added, apparently that can be a thing with modern nitro. Either way, nothing happened.

I am really pleased with the little beast and had forgoten how nice it sounds and what a joy it is to play.

I don't like artificially relic'd guitars. This one, I do.

Thanks for your comments chaps.

I had every intention of going a bit heavier with the relic'ing originally but, was so taken with the colour, and combination with the plastic, I just went with a bit to show it isn't intended to look pristine. I can then stick with playing it lots and see what happens of its own accord. I love the freedom of a guitar you don't worry about getting knocked and just get on and use.

The other thing is I am nowhere near as accomplished, or flamboyant, a player necessary to carry off a battered work horse, so Odee is much more appropriate to me.

He has been a wonderful voyage of discovery, with many thanks to you chaps. Before I started I wouldn't have known a 57 from a 63. Now, in trying to produce as authentic a 62 as possible on a budget (and while not denying the guitars origins - i.e. produce a fake) I have learn't so much. Cheers guys.

What now? Obviously an AVRI would be nice. But I would have to replace so much to get a lot of the authentic features still missing on an AVRI that, in many respects, the only difference to Odee would be the head decals. I'm not coughing up £2K+ just to get the correct format of decal. I wouldn't do that on Odee as it is getting too close to fackery in denying the guitars origins.

If a cheap '57 Road Worn or Classic lacquer became available on eBay that could tempt me on a new journey :-). For now I have my 70's Avon SG in pieces so I wont be bored.

I'm looking forward to seeing how that one turns out too, John.

No doubt about it, John, you do some nice work! Much better than the not-very-nice original relic job.

Well done!

Cheers - Peter.

I've skimmed this post, but haven't read it in its entirety. Have you established if the pups are Tex-Mex vs. Texas Specials?

None of the above. I took out the CS PUP's the previous owner installed and fitted Joseph Kaye Sonic Monkey handwired 62 replicas.

It shipped 06/2008 with Tex/Mex originally.

Oh, OK; I was going by your post on pg 3, where the id was incomplete! "And, I'll have a set of redundant CS Texas Specials, or what ever they are, that I can swap for the Mexicans in Curly Whirly" I'm looking for a set of Texas Specials to return my Strat to stock. Thanks though.
