If I recall correctly, this was the first year of production and they had ceramic magnet pickups on them. They sounded okay when used with a good amp.

In '06, the upgraded Hwy 1s, came with Alnico (aluminum, nickel, cobault)magnets and had a smoother, rich sound. (in my opinion, of course).

I had to look that one up for myself.

I looked in my 02 frontline and it was out to early for the Hwy series and so I went to 03 and found that it does indeed look as if Fender had put something other than American pups in them.

The Hwy listing reads "3 Std. Vin. Strat S-C"

the MIM standards read "3 STD S-C"

American Series Strats read "Amer. Strat S-C"

so if you compare the listings the Hwy pups have more in common maybe with the MIM standards than any other.

i have 3 of them late 2006 upgrade and 2 early 2007's
all have the alnico 3 pick ups and i woulnd change a thing
on this brilliant strat. i get more compliments on the feel/tone
of my HWY ones than the 2008 american standards and the
alnico 3's are a huge part why.

They are some of my favorite Fender pickups and they seem to really nail the vintage nuances and tone dynamics of the genre.

If you can find a set of Abby Masterwounds, even better. 8)

I meant to say the hand guided ones Abby did for the Masterbuilt 54 Strats. Sorry for the confusion.

Shop 69's are Abigail wound, comes with a date done and her initials. A lot of players covet pickups wound by her.

Why don't you take a peek under the pickguard and tell us if they are ceramic pickups or not?

I'm interested in knowing.

Well of course I have realized that is the best way to find out what is in there,I just guess Im too lazy,Thats why I posted the question here.So when Im ready to replace my strings again I will certainly "look under the hood" Unless I can do it without taking off the strings without hassles and get a good look :)
