I am getting an HSS elite soon, my second US strat, and my idols are mostly Gibson players, like Page and Angus. Strat is a do-it-all economy guitar for me and the neck is very comfortable, a Les Paul seems like self-indulging. Never even picked up a Paul. Despite that, I observe 2015 Les Paul standards, not a particularly popular Les Paul year I believe, cost only as much as my new Elite. So kind of scratching my head if I have been making the best decisions.

My first decent guitar was a Made in USA Epiphone Wilshire DX. Then I bought a Strat. Reason, well, they have all been stated! But this had a 3 way switch. Remember those? And I found if I put it in-between 1&2 or 2&3 I got the coolest sounds! (Well a years later in 1977 Fender added the 5-way switch. Took a little bit of the coolness out at the time as not a lot of guys I played with knew about that little trick. I have owned a lot of guitars, and still do, but I always come back to my 1987 Strat in Vintage white. She is a bit beat but plays super nice and the tone, wow!

Yes, finding that 'notch' on the pup selector switch made it quack nicely!

Got to admit it is a looker I especially like the trem cover

Thank you, mud!
I kept the Ashtray bridge cover on there for a couple of reasons...first of all, it looked cool.

Second, I had a theory, based on a construction technique of G&L hardtail bridges. Leo put a small set screw that pushes all the saddles together tighter on the edge of his hardtail bridges, which purportedly increased sustain and tuning stability.

My theory was if I could do something similar, by allowing the Ashtray to push the saddles together--it might increase sustain as well...also, the added mass to the bridge (not much, but a little something is added, weight- and mass-wise) might help as well.

Does it work?
I don't know, but it feels different and seems to lose a little "something" when I don't install it before playing...it's probably just in my head, but there's a lot of things in my head that make me happier to do it that way. :P

The "CUSTOM" plate was something I found in a parking lot years ago. I glued it there cuz it looked cool. Years later, I was sitting in a friend's restored 1960's Pontiac and realized that was what it came from...it was an interior badge plate mounted on the door near the window crank.

I always wondered about the origin of that thing (I suspected it was automotive-related.).

Because they're such fine looking guitars. They are the best looking guitars. Still THE classic electric guitar shape.

Plus, Ritchie Blackmore.

The Fender guitar has always been iconic in my mind. I have come to appreciate the way it conforms to any style of playing, from standing, sitting, to lying down. It is the most comfortable for me. I appreciate all models of guitar and always come back to the Strat for comfort. So I will always have a Strat in my arsenal. It is essential.

My first electric guitar was a used Olympic White MIJ Strat. I think I bought this guitar about 1985 used with just one owner of less than a year. It has served me well over the years. The bridge needs a little work but otherwise just a great guitar! My second Strat is a MIM Strat 2015 LPB with maple neck. Over the years I have come to prefer maple necks! The way they feel, look and play! This guitar is my go to guitar right now because it plays so smooth! It also was a bargain at $440 with a Fender gig bag!

Reasons for buying a Strat? For me a number of reasons... 1. The tone is great. I have learned over the years that a good portion of one's tone is in their hands and playing and I am a firm believer of this thought. 2. The guitar is so comfortable to play. Some guitars are just not as comfortable because of weight and shape. 3. Affordability again a great MIM model for $500.00 or less in the rights hands well lets just say... life gets better when playing a Strat. There are few things I have seen in which I think the product was perfect right from the start. Leo Fender made the Stratocaster perfect right from the start and that is why you buy a strat!

Fair enough....

When I bought my first Strat in the 80s I was gigging with a single pickup Guild & using a Yamaha SG as a back up. I really wanted something with a slimmer neck than the Yamaha, & more tonal range than the Guild. So I bought a new MiJ Contemporary Strat, HSS, system I locking trem & all black, including the headstock & hardware.

It was an awesome guitar, in every respect, so I traded my Bond Electraglide for a used MiJ with the system III trem in a metallic cream finish. A few years later, with the band broken up, I sold the black one - and it's the only guitar I truly regret selling. I still don't know why I sold the wrong one! I finally sold the cream Strat a couple of years ago, thinking I was no longer into Strats... In truth, it had never been anything special, just had a beautifully engineered trem.

Then a bargain priced MiM in arctic white changed my mind - and I discovered I really do like maple fretboards, not sure why, but I thought I didn't! That new MiM was so cheap I could've sold it with no loss, so it wasn't a gamble. It immediately become my 'most played' guitar, so, tempted by the exceptional versatility the cards offer, I've just bought an American Deluxe Plus, also with a maple fretboard. But I can't let that MiM go - it really does have something special about it and I'm not going to make the same mistake again. :)

I basically bought a Strat because it is iconic and has been "my favorite" (as a non owner) for many years.
"Why a Strat" is not something I can put into a nutshell, it is a cumulation of all of my past rock & roll exposure. I played some in the late '60s early '70s and just came back to playing less than 2 years ago. Fortunatly now able to afford to buy some decent guitars, the two bookends for me are my Fender Strat (American Deluxe Strat Plus) and Gibson Less Paul (Traditional Pro 3T). I have a smattering of others, but those two are now marked off my bucket list.

I was a Les Paul player for many years. I began to notice that most of my favorite players played Strats. The weight difference was a plus, but also the wide tonal variety. I went to a guitar store in southern CA, not intending to buy a guitar, and found a beautiful 3-tone sunburst American Standard with maple fretboard. It looked like Buddy Holly's. The price was right, so I then became a Strat owner. Later, as I got into the music of Rory Gallagher, I bought my second strat, with a rosewood fretboard of course.

I'm loving these old stories. Seeing people like Hendrix perform live must have been something special. My first guitar and amp (both of which I still own) were a Squier Strat and Fender G-Dec Junior that came as a bundle.

Last year I bought a MiM HH Stratocaster in ghost silver with black pickguard and control knobs. Reason? I was shopping for a tube amplifier and the staff at the shop had the same guitar but in white on display conveniently close to the amps.

I liked the feel of that instrument but I've developed a liking for silver over the years and ordered me one.

Years ago I tried out a Les Paul at a shop but damn, those things are heavy.
