I started with a Tele but after seeing Hendrix I bought a Strat.
At one point I had 8 Strats of various configurations and modifications
but now I'm down to three which are all different.

What made you buy a Strat?

Played the harmonica since 1971 bought a SG in 2008 learned how to play, wanted a different sound, decided I needed single coils, as I had humbuckers already. My 60th birthday arrived in Feb of 2013, bought me present, a 2012 American Standard Strat, and have been happy as a dog with a shank bone ever since.

Buddy Holly played a Strat.

I had a band when I was 14, 1966. My Silvertone was busted and we had an engagement that night. Someone knew someone with a guitar I could borrow and It was a Fender Stratocaster. I couldn't believe the sound and playability. I had my own a little later. Bought my 2nd one when I retired at 62, 2014. I have never liked or desired any other electric except for a momentary lapse in judgement with a Rickenbacker which I quickly got rid of.

Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix, The Ventures, etc., my inspirations back in my early days. Don't have my first Strat, but have three that are my keepers.

Derek & The Dominos era Clapton. Seeing Brownie on the back cover of the Layla album set me on the hunt for a good Strat. Let me tell you, growing up in Southwestern Michigan next door to the Gibson plant and playing a Stratocaster was a sure way to garner you some WTF looks!

Like owning a Dodge Viper when you live in Bolling Green, KY and work at the Corvette plant.

Because it's a comfortable guitar and the most beautiful shaped guitar I've seen so far.
And because Les Pauls are but-ugly. (one day I'd like to own one though)

When I was starting out, Hank and Buddy played one. It looked out of this world then and it still has the same effect on me now! They look great, feel great, play great, they're versatile, easily-modded, and not even expensive compared to many US brands.

I've had loads of guitars in nearly 55 years but have always came back to Strats, even though my first was a dog (looking back). I currently have 5, and (apart from a cheapo Squier bass and a D-28 Martin), nothing else! And I'm going to be sticking with them now...

Cheers - Peter.

My first electric was also the first guitar I ever bought with my own money. I can't remember how old I was but I was very young. The guitar was a Strat copy made by Kent. I think I bought it because in my tender mind three pickups looked cooler than than two. I liked that guitar. I played the hell out of it. As I learned more about guitars I became aware of the fact it was a Strat copy so my goal became to get a real one. I've been hooked on them ever since.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Keep 'em coming...
