I have a question about the colors of the original Clapton Stratocasters with the Gold Lace Sensor pickups, I know when launched they were available in Pewter, Green and Red and then the Black "Blackie" model followed soon after. I thought these were the only color options.

However I have seen some models around 2006 with the lace sensors in 'Mercedes Blue' is this correct that there were some of the lace sensor Clapton Strats produced in this color?

thanks Sundance

I thought that Mercedes Blue was only used on Custom Shop Claptons - both team built and master built. I suppose that some dealer could have ordered a run of SC Claptons in Mercedes Blue with the Lace Sensor Golds. I think Eric himself was using one with Lace Sensors for slide work (he was using ones with the Vintage Noiseless for most things) around that time so it makes sense that a dealer might commission a run of 20-25 of them.

Some pictures would be helpful. I'm not aware of any factory models in that color. Also, Fender stopped using Lace Sensors for the Clapton model right around 2001ish.
The CS did make EC Strats in that blue. If there are "several" out there, then maybe it was a special run for a music store. I would investigate further before buying.

It is indeed unusual which is why I posted it, I will do some more digging and see if I can find out some more information.

I agree with John C., Mercedes Blue and the time frame of the Lace Sensors, just don't jive, which makes me think that possibly many folks like the Lace Sensors well enough to swap em out even on the custom shop ones after purchase.

Clapton's agreement with Fender was pretty specific and they weren't able to just issue FSR type guitars without his specific agreement.

FWIW

Eric doesn't use Lace Sensors anymore.

All his slide axes are fitted with Noiseless pickups since 2010.

I was talking about 2005-2006; I thought he was seen using some of the old Lace Sensor models back then.

He had a Blackie with Lace Sensors set-up for slide as of 2001.

For the "Back Home" world tour in 2006/07 he used a similar model with VNs.

Thanks; I thought he was still occasionally using a Lace Sensor one later than 2001.

Back to the question at hand, Yes John C was right. Back from 1989 till 2001, colors other than Pewter, Vintage White, Candy Apple Green, Torino Red and Black were all Custom Shop colors. Not sure what fender is offering today. Here is a Custom Shop Eric Clapton Stratocaster Mercedes Blue:

Here are two I have:
