First post!

I have an opportunity to buy a NOS 2013 American Vintage 1954 Stratocaster. I have some questions that I hope can be answered here.

#1 Should the neck plate have a 60th "Anniversary" emblem on it? Looking online I see a couple of photos with emblem, but I know they made a "Vintage", "Anniversary" and "American" strat that year, so some pictures might be mislabled.

#2 I was buying from a reputable dealer (so I don't believe it's fake) but the COA provided in the case did not match the serial number on the neck plate. Is this common? Will Fender reissue a COA if contacted by seller (has this ever been done, and should I be concerned??). The Seller assures me they will correct it, but can they?

#3 My understanding is that only 1957 of these were made, making it a bit of a collectors item. If I were to buy it as a collection, not a primary, would buckle rash and pick guard swirls #significantly# decrease the value as a collector's item? Not to mention the mistake with the COA.

If I buy it I'm going to love it and play it, but I'm curious about the "Vintage collectors" aspect of this guitar.

Thanks!

From the descriptions you've given you've described a guitar that's not what it seems.
What I think you're trying to describe can be seen here http://www.musicvilla.com/60th-annivers ... atocaster/

Buckle rash on it will affect the resale value.
Collectors aren't necessarily players.

On Fender 2013 catalog there are no American Vintage 54 Stratocaster.
Nothing about the name NOS 2013 either.
Or it is a special edition not in catalog.

Catalogs available here . Scroll down to Support, click Library

To me NOS mean a original guitar built in 1954 and keep in mint condition, not a guitar built in 2013.

There is so many Vintage series guitar a over the years, these are no collector items IMO.

+1

It is a 2014 not 2013 and nothing about the name NOS

You are correct. V13 serial number for 2014 stock. And I misused NOS. "New Old Stock" to me meant never sold (retail), not current year.

Yes, that one.

And yes, I can understand how my subject is incorrect and misleading.

If that COA does not jive with the serial number stamped on the neck plate there is something seriously amiss with the instrument. The sole raison d'etre for a COA is to definitively document the guitar's bona fides.

Not counting the Custom Shop anniversary models,
The 60th anniversary guitars of 2014 were the
"vintage spec" AVRI1954 Stratocaster msrp$3000ish, currently available for about half that on other sites used
"modern spec gold accents"60th anniversary commemorative Stratocaster msrp$2000ish, harder to find used and a nicer imo collectors model

If your looking at an AVRI 1954 Stratocaster, the link above shows the actual spec sheet. the "1st 54 neck plate" is on the 1st 54 made and the rest of the 1904 guitars will have a V14serial number and all should have a 60th anniversary certificate. Not to be confused w/ the CS COA. Very unlikely that they would re-issue a certificate, and there are certainly scrupulous individuals that will copy them.
The 60th anniversary embroidered case in the 1st photo from the link above is for the commemorative Stratocaster model.
Collector's look at originality, condition, rarity, provenance, as well as specificity towards a collection "all the x models" and yes in most cases issues affecting condition reduce the value unless it is a documented flaw of a well known instrument.
Even so called trusted stores occasionally have used instruments that are fake, if your buying it "new-never sold but used" from a trusted store and paying their price it shouldn't have any major flaws such as a bad certificate.......or wrong pickups from the spec sheet, etc.

Edited from text, I was wrong about these parts in "" below.
"the last 2 digits I believe are 60 on all of them and the numbers in between 14xxxx60 indicate the actual number of the guitar"
The SN's are not sequenced as such, but probably should have been.

"Any US Stratocaster built in 2014 may have some anniversary ingot on the headstock or an anniversary neck plate."
Only the Mexican made 60th anniversary Sand Strat w/ gold hardware have both the neck ingot and 60th anniversary neck plate.

The answers above are good. Additional info: There were three '54 Strats issued in 2014 for the 60th anniversary. The AV had a center pocket case without the 60th Anniversary embroidery. They also made a heavy relic 1954 ($4700 street price) and a commemorative ($1500 street price) - the later two had the 60th Anniversary emblem embroidered in inside top of the case. The AV 1954 60th Anniversary was about $2400 street price. Further details of the AV '54 60th anniversary can be seen at my geeky video attached. Concerning the ability to obtain a correct cert of authenticity - good luck! I have a couple of early 2000 custom shop relic Strats that had the wrong or no cert. I purchased the guitars from Guitar Center and they said they could get the correct ones from Fender. After a years worth of hounding, I was never successful in getting the correct certs. My advise - if the cert is important - don't buy the one without the correct cert. The cert is probably important if you ever intend to sell the guitar.
