A while ago I posted my first 24" Scale Strat build. I took a neck from a MIM Blacktop Jaguar and put it on a Warmoth mahogany strat body.

I decided to build an (don't laugh) EVH meets Hendrix 24" scale strat. This time I ordered both a neck and body from Warmoth. Spike was super helpful and suggested that I used a 7/8 body to save me a lot of routing. I used the Am Stnd tremolo rout, wood mount humbucker rout, with a rear control rout with just a 5-way switch.

I had to measure and drill the 2 post holes and decided to open up the tremolo rout a bit. I used the template that I got from hipshot although the tremolo is stated as a direct fit to an Am Stnd.

The body is ash. This was my first try at grain filling. It wasn't too difficult. My problem was I need to be more patient. I wanted a blonde finish and used a white wash stain and a satin spray polyurethane. I think if came out okay.

I used a honey maple stain on the neck to give it slightly aged maple look. The frets are 6105.

The other parts are SD '78 reverse zebra pickup, hipshot staggered locking tuners, hipshot contour tremolo, CRL 3-way switch, CTS 500K audio pots, 22 orange drop cap. Wiring is similar to Esquire wiring, but #3 is nothing so it's like my kill switch.

First time using a tremolo, so I'm struggling a bit with the setup. I also need to buy some nut files since the string height at the nut is a little high.

I adjusted the string height at the nut. Messed up on the D slot and had to do the Super Glue trick. Amazingly that worked. My D, G, B go sharp when I use the tremolo. I will have to check those slots. I've lubed all points of contact and have the tremolo flush to body.

Other than that guitar sounds good. Acoustically the ash body rings the same as my mahogany body strat (24" Scale Strat Build post). But it's brighter or the mahogany strat sounds fuller. Not sure how to describe. I'm surprised with how well the Hipshot bridge sustains. I thought tremolos took away from sustain that's why EC blocks his.

Plugged in the SD '78 is very articulate. If you've seen the description of the new Dimarzio PAF Master that's how I would describe the '78.
