today the ball bearing and spring arrived from STU-MAC, i never use the trem i always block it, however, i'm working on something where i "hear" a little trem. so i dropped in the bearing and spring and worked fine for about 5 minuets then the trem arm FELL OUT, after looking for the bearing and spring i put them back in now it doesn't work at all. i really have no idea what happened. and no, i didn't strip any threads. any ideas?

little screw? this whole ball bearing/spring is something new, i bought my first strat brand new in 1972 and have owned at least 3, i have never heard of this before, i saw someone on youtube explain why there is a small sticker on the opening for the trem arm on new strats. so, please explain what you mean by little screw.
thanks so much

First off, let's define exactly what you have.
I am assuming you have a Strat with a "pop-in" tremolo arm.
If you have a Strat with a threaded "screw-in" arm there is no need for a spring or ball.
Which do you have?

I guess I assumed anyone who didn't know what screw I meant prolly had a newer machine.
Perhaps that wasn't the best assumption to make.

The Stew Mac spring is the same as the Fender trem arm compression spring but the kit includes a ball bearing which apparently makes rotating the arm smoother.

Yeah first question do you have the correct arm for the bridge since there are threaded as on most fenders and pop in as on the plus and deluxe.
If it is the threaded type I suspect the arm has not engaged the thread in the hole. Try it without the ball bearing ... the spring should suffice. The spring just supplies a little tension to prevent the arm from freely rotating.
The pop in type requires no spring :D
