Anyone know where I can find an "original" replacement pickup for my 1987 62 reissue? The center one crapped out on me years ago and I replaced it with a Duncan but I'd like to get the guitar back to original (or as original as I can - the neck is a 1988 replacement under warranty when the original fingerboard started separating).

Also, I plan on keeping the guitar, but I'm curious as to the value too - it's in overall great shape other than the replacement pickup. I have the original case, purchase receipt, and most of the candy. A couple of paint chips here and there but no dings, dents, or noticeable scratches. If anyone has bought or sold one of these recently I'd be interested in knowing what you got/paid.

Thanks.

You're probably going to have to go to ebay to find an original RI pickup or pickup set or have the pickup rewound. Are your pickups grey bottom or red bottom?

I checked in the accessories - all Fender has now are the PV sets from the current '56, '59 and '65 models; they don't even have the old AVRI '57/'62 set that was used from 1998-2012 on the site any more.

Grey bottom. Dark grey from what I can see, almost black. Unfortunately I didn't get the bum pickup back when I had it repaired so I can't have it rewound. I'll look on eBay but I'll probably have to be resigned to living with it as is. Thanks for the help.

Try here, but be quick http://www.firstguitars.co.uk/shop/original-5762/
OK, you'll have a couple of spare pickups, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

First things first, you have a US/Corona made '62 AVRI and not a MIJ ST-62?

On the pickups, webstores still seem to have the 57/62 set "available immediately" or "in stock"; thomann.de 57/62 set
darrenriley 57/62 set

To find an original, you have to visit ebay, reverb & such and hope for the best - some sets are available, very seldom single mid pups.

+1000

Unless the client explicitly tells me something to the contrary, I always return every removed part from a customer's guitar or amp.

Sometimes I just don't understand the policies.
159$ for the 57/62 set if ordered from Fender.
119.95$ from darrenriley.
Both postage free in the US (available for international customers only from darrenriley).

And the thomann prices vary (185€ to 198€, about 210 to 225 dollars) depending on which country your order comes... Vat differences in the EU..?

Yes, EU vat rates vary from 18% to 27% depending where you live.

I wasn't sure when they changed from the red bottom to the grey bottom pickups on these. And I just plain missed the 1998-2012 "Original 57/62" being on Fender's website when I checked yesterday - but those pickups are different than what you have in your 1987. It's a shame that you didn't get the old pickup back.

I asked for the confirmation for MIA or MIJ just because of that "dark grey from what I can see, almost black".
All US greybobbins I've seen are clearly gray. The "almost black" characterization would suit a MIJ ST-62 better.

The 57/62 set isn't the original set for a 1987 AVRI '62, but that's what they used in later days AVRI 62's. And anyway, they are maybe a step closer to originals than the Duncan.
