Tighten the tremolo claw and possibly add more springs,

Re-adjust the intonation,

possible truss rod adjustment,

might need to get the nut slots widened out to accept the heavier strings so they won't bind up in the slots and affect tuning stability,

Thats all I can think of right now. Most of this you can do yourself with the right tools, you could do the nut slots yourself but I had a proffesional do mine for me.

Hello Rockstar,

Assuming it's a Stratocaster
neck adjustment{truss rod and micro tilt or shim}
saddle adjustment
claw adjustment on tremolo
reintonate

Thats it.

Cheers.

Hi Rock*Star, I used the last free set-up that came with the purchase of my MIM Strat to ask the luthier to make the switch from 10 to 11 strings gauge (originally came with 9). He had to make slightly larger seats in the nut, so the larger strings wouldn't break it because of the increased tension. Also asked him to tune to E flat and adjust the neck accordingly. I also asked him to check the vibrato because a few months ago I added the two missing springs so I could have a fixed bridge. I also filled the springs cavity with a piece of soft cloth to eliminate any springs vibrations while I play. He gave it a complete set-up. I can say that without a doubt this guitar has a much better sound (to my taste) now. Don't get me wrong, the sound was good from the beginning, but, much better now, and only from non intrusives mods.

I don't know if you have any experience in guitar set-up, if not I would suggest you to take your instrument to a professionnal, talk with him, tell him what you want to do, ask questions (learn in the process). Unless you know someone who has the knowledge to mod your guitar be very carefull with improvised modifications as some of them can compromise your guitar definitively.

Good luck.

Cheers.

I have .12s on my Strat, went up from .10s. I just had the guitar set-up for the new strings at the local music shop and I threw 2 more spings in the back, but haven't adjusted the claw, but have been thinking about it.

I have played with 10's on my strat for years...
I am getting 2 new strats that I am going to run with 9's.
Thats the way I have my ibanez guitar (with 9's)...
I guess for me I wanted to be able to beat the string harder without it breaking while on stage...
What is the benefit to the larger string in your opinion?

Better tone. Also, thicker strings can handle harder picking.
