I bought this strat a few years ago. Checking with the Fender serial numbers site,it is supposedly a 1977 or 1978 CBS Strat. I went to sell it on eBay but got an email from some guy who says it is a fake??? Is there any sure fire way to tell? I honestly don't mind as the guitar itself plays beautifully and if I need to keep it, so be it. Here is the auction (it is suspended). Any advice greatly appreciated.

I don't want to sell a fake but also don't want to let the original thing go for too cheap if it is real.

Thanks

Looks legit. To truly tell if its a 70's fender, does it have a 3 bolt neck with microtilt?

I'm sorry dude, they should catch the counterfitters and stick their guitar necks up their !@##$#@! LOL

The link to find out Stratocaster serials numbers is here:
http://www.fender.com/support/usa_instruments.php

A search for mine yields that the same serial numbers was used several times:
http://www.google.com/search?source=ig& ... gle+Search

by those who counterfeit Fender Guitars. The level of detail that went into this is truly amazing. It sounds great and plays very well so I think I will just keep it. My main issue is that I am building a custom double-neck Strat/Fender Pre bass and need two donor instruments. I don't want to dissassemble a real CBS strat to build the Cremer double body.

I'll post the build as it goes on.

THanks for the help everyone.
