Not sure how well these pics will come out, or whether you can see the difference over the jumbos, or whether it's of any interest to others, but I can certainly feel the difference with these new frets on my Am Spec!

They're actually Jescar 47104 wire, not Dunlop 6130, which may seem strange, but the tech said that these would be best after crowning/dressing down to 39 thou (6130 is allegedly 36 thou), and I'm very happy with his choice.

As the tech said, most people are now going the other way, but it's horses for courses!

Cheers - Peter.

Nice man,
Looks like job well done.
Have you lowered the nut? To be closer to lower frets?

I got a 72 Les Paul Custom a couple of years back. And got to see why it was called the fretless wonder. I put jumbos on it. Soon went back to low, wide frets

Thanks Waymore. Yes, the tech said he'd filed the nut slots a bit, although I don't see much difference myself! As these frets are some 15 thou lower than the jumbos I always assumed he'd have to, though.

Yes, nikininja, jumbos are definitely an acquired taste! Although I had them on an Ibanez RG550 for many years and never really noticed them. I suppose they suited that guitar. The neck began to make my hand ache though, so it had to go. Probably a result of getting older!

Cheers - Peter.

It depends on style I guess, I had problems with my fingers and jumbo frets I found were easier for bends and hammertaps, while medium on my Tele suit me for nice slides...than again I use the Strat mostly for Knopfler type of playing and picking while on Tele I play hybrid pickin and chicken pickin country style.

It could be the lighting, but they look a bit flat on the top?

I kind of see that too, but then studied the 1st pic (I assume those are the jumbos) and I see the same flattening effect on a few of the frets.
Peter S, what say you? I've never played the jumbos, but they sure look huge compared to the new ones. I don't know if I could get used to that. It seems it would be like trying to play those scalloped necks which would be hopeless for me. I like to feel a little bit of fingerboard.

Here are Jumbo ones and you feel a fretboard just a lot less, I personally like it

Or other can be seen better on this pic where I actually play it

I bought a "fretless wonder" Gibson acoustic way back when I didn't know better. Of course, they didn't call it that. It was a rosewood Heritage and boy did I get a deal and they saw me coming. I could not fret the dang thing. It was impossible to get a good clean open chord. Terrible experience until I saw another goof like me and he freed me of it. Believe me, the fretting is the first thing I look for and the medium jumbos are perfect for me. Not too high and not too low. I would definitely get used to the jumbos before the tiny flat things.

Exactly,
For some reason they really suit me from the moment I tried em...

Well, I did a reply yesterday but it's disappeared! Probably finger trouble!

Yes chaps, I see what you mean. Must be the camera/angle/lighting/something else, but I can assure you that the fret tops are rounded and very slinky! Both my pics are the new frets, just different parts of the board. See Waymore's pics for the jumbos. Shows how difficult it is to see the difference in a photo, though!

Yes, I like to feel the board as well. If I was only going to use this Strat for rhythm I'd have kept the jumbos, but for lead it just wasn't ideal for me. You need to have a soft touch, and I haven't!

Cheers - Peter.

Are the dunlop 6000s bigger than the 6100s? I thought the 6100s were the biggest jumbos dunlop makes. I myself like the 6105s better, high like the 6100s, but a little narrower.
