i've bought a splattercast at a local pawnshop for 150. bucks. first one i've ever ran across and it is perfect but it is the odd colored gold, gray, white, black spects. the shop in this area said they'd never seen one and didn't know what the value of it.

They are ... in a word ... unpopular.
A couple of years someone asked if there were any Splattercaster lovers here.
The silence was deafening.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Never mind the color, it's a MIM Stratocaster - I think you did good for 150$. Ebay prices for Splattercasters seem to be at around 400-600$.

And since the goes around comes around principle still works, they'll probably be fashionable again. Some day.

I wouldn't kick one out of bed.
I wouldn't pick one, either. Indifferent more than for or against them. $150, you got a bargain

A lot of what a guitar is worth tends to depend on a few things...condition, popularity, locality, etc.. For example, here in the Northern Ohio area, used MIM Strats tend to go for around $250 give or take, depending on condition and such. I've seen quite a few used MIM's on Craigslist for around $300 to $350...and they are there month after month after month, so that tells me that not a lot of people are willing to spend that much. So from a guitar players stand point, yea...I'd say that $150 for a splatter Strat is a pretty good deal....as jmattis said, it's still an MIM and personally I'd be quite happy with that deal, regardless of the finish.

As far as trying to resell it, as others have already pointed out they were never really popular. You'd probably have better luck trying to sell a decent used sunburst or even basic black. You could find someone who thinks it's interesting, but there's a reason the line got discontinued pretty quickly.

As far as the guitars themselves...eh. I wouldn't turn my nose up at one if the price was right, but I probably wouldn't go too far out of my way for one either. Might be kind of cool to have one in the harem as something of an oddity, but I already have my favorites and don't really see those being replaced by something that looks like someone carelessly dumped paint on it.

I had one of those. The guys I bought it from said it looked like somebody threw up a variety of tic tacs on it. I named it tictac. People tout these MIMs lately, but that one was a POS. Everything was bad except the excellent body. :)
