HOW TO SET UP A GUITAR FOR THE BEST TONE FOR SLIDE PLAYING?

1. Find any badboy guitar your desired color, with stoptail, no trem.
2. COMMIT this guitar to be a slider, in a short ceremony befitting your religion and/or habitual indulgences.
3. Toss out that pretentious white Nut, slot in a high Fat Brass nut.
4. Slap in a very good P90 at the neck, & a Twisted Tele in bridge, straight or slant, no biggie. (or a BG1400)
5. Get a set of Elixir Nanoweb 12-52, toss out the 2 light strings.
6. String it up HIGH! With the remaining 4 low strings, 3/16" off the board, in the mid 4 string slots.
7. Tune up! Low D, A, D, F#
8. Buy a bottle of Pikesville Whisky, or similar bottle with straight neck, DRINK it all.
9. Turn up the tubes till they red hot. Hark! The crackling harmonics.
10. Break neck off the Pikesville bottle, stick any left middle finger in the blunt end.
11. Howl all night long, with your new growlin' Swamp Dog From Hell.

I should put that as the end note for everything I post when I make suggestions about gear!

I don't use any different or specific effects, either--just the normal "always on" TS9 and "often on" MXR Micro Amp pedal for overdrive and boost, respectively.

Very cool playing!

Thank you so much! A lot of practice and a little bit of soul got me there, but I have a Loooooong way to go to be "good"

It will be an eye opener to see if I can learn to navigate my fingers to pick as I always use a regular plectrum. Im going on 2 weeks now letting my nails grow to see what results I'll get ;)

I tried to maintain some longer nails for a while, but my job wasn't conducive for such a task (breaks and splits too common)...I just use my fingertips and any nail that happens to be growing at the time.

My, oh my ....
Aren't you the lucky bass turd?
Beautiful family and a shot with the queen of slide.

Yep, I am a fortunate man.

We were at that concert because the Armadillo 'Tween (10 or 11 at the time) bought us the tickets for our wedding anniversary. I knew she had done it, but it was a surprise for my wife.

Through some friends who worked at the venue (Choctaw Casino in Durant, OK) I scrounged up a third ticket to surprise the 'Tween. She was thrilled when we told her she was going with us on the day of the event.

Obviously, the seats weren't together, so we tracked down the manager of the venue (a local celebrity of sorts) and I had the Armadillo 'Tween explain the situation, and ask if she could sit in one of our laps or work out something (the show was sold out).

The manager said, "Wait--YOU bought these tickets? Do you have a job?"

"I collect cans and used some money my Papa gave me," she replied.

"Well, this won't work at all. We don't allow two people to sit in the same seat, so we have two options. You'll have to split up, or you can trade me your tickets for these three front row tickets...which choice will you take?"
I think you know her answer.

Later, during the show the manager came up to check on her, and asked if she wanted to go backstage and meet Ms. Raitt...she said, "Only of my parents can come, too!"

I love that kid.
