Hello fellow Fender lovers!
I recently bought a very slightly used Stratocaster Deluxe 2013 in MINT condition.
I played it for a week and started to change the modules that 're-wire' the pickups when I noticed some popping and clicking noises going on when I was percussive strumming.
At first I thought it might be my amplifier but when I changed to another I owned I still had the problem. Uh oh...Must be the guitar!
I took it to a knowledgeable luthier nearby and he immediately diagnosed the situation, saying that he usually sees this problem in Telecasters.
Since I was there anyway, I had him replace the pick guard (culprit) that caused the static discharge that was basically making my new guitar un-playable.
His fix was to add shielding material to a new, fancier pick guard that I decided to buy.
It definitely fixed the static problem that I was having.
I Google searched for an answer before taking it in to the shop but I didn't find a solution there.
So I thought that perhaps someone else was experiencing this situation and would appreciate a solution.
Frankly, I'm surprised that Fender itself doesn't shield a pick guard at the Factory as I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only Stratocaster or Telecaster owner who's experienced this.

I never had this static on any of my guitars. I have many Telecaster and Strats differents years since 20 years. Same for all of my friends 's guitars.

You say the noise is coming after you rewired the pickups . Look a electrical problem you do .

I know this sounds weird but ... take a dryer anti-cling sheet and wipe the strings bridge and pickguard ... the static and clicks and pops will go away ... if your bridge isn't grounded this simple fix might not be helpful ... otherwise , I've seen it work for many folks with this symptom ...

SpaceAgeTech1, if any static in a guitar, when we work on guitar ( as luthier do ) , touch it with fingers and tool make static gone.

There was just a topic on this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=100869

Static noise occasionally happens - may depend on the pickguard plastic type, player & clothing, surroundings (electrics of the building or central heating) & whatever.
On Fenders, the fix is usually easy: general grounding check, accompanied with the dryer sheet trick, or more permanently adding shielding.

+1

No need to see a luthier and / or spend lots of money

Thankfully, no, I've never dealt with it on Strat's or Tele's.

I have only had two Tele's (a 2012 MIM for less than a year, and 2011 Squire Standard for about 3 1/2 to 4 years), just couldn't find any love in them (just me...not knocking them)....but even those lower end guitars didn't have that issue.

Thanks to all who responded.
My personal Telecaster never showed this problem.
I owned a Mexican Stratocaster that I sold to buy the American Deluxe and IT never had the problem either.
When I decided to buy the American Deluxe I was kind of in Heaven at first.
Then I started reading of issues with these N3 noiseless pickups.
First my repair man said it's better to solder pickups rather than just plug 'em in....
Then, others are claiming the new pickups to alter Stratocaster sound.
Personally, I liked the sound of my new guitar until the static problem happened.

Now, a new problem....My pickup switch shows two rear pickups operating when on the bridge pickup setting!
Grrrr....
As much as I love this new instrument, I'm starting to think I bought a lemon....

A 2013 American Deluxe Stratocaster, 011-9000-7XX, with the S1 switch on (=engaged = down) and the 5way switch in position 1 or 5 has all pickups on, that's a built-in feature and not a defect. AmDlx Wiring Diagram

If you like the sound, and after that static problem is fixed, maybe better to leave the wiring alone... Trust your ears instead of variable opinions etc.
In general (short of the very occasional S1 problems or such) I wouldn't call an AmDlx a lemon...

Thanks so very much for the PDF Wiring diagram and parts list!
I was not even aware of the S1 switch until I read this.
I'm thinking that the repair guy didn't realize that either.
Will fix that and I'm guessing all my worries will be gone!
Appreciate your help!

If your repair guy didn't know this he is a hack and shouldn't be working on Fender guitars. Find a new repair guy asap.
