Hello
Can you help me please to identify the specs of a 1994er Special Edition HSS Strat ? I don´t find any Information in the net.
Only "Special Edition" is written on the neck plate, a 40ies anniv. logo is missing on the headstock. Serial would be N3 88081.
I would be mainly interested to know what pickups were used, and what pickups produced today would match them.
Thank you
Stefan

That's a new one on me - it could have been a special edition for a retailer as that is not the "40th Anniversary" neckplate that was used on almost all 1994 American Standards (the ones that had the little medallion on the headstock).

I would see if Fender can give you any info on this one - their records go back to 1993 but they are kind of spotty until a bit later in the 1990s so hopefully they can shed some light on it. I would send the serial number to consumerrelations@fender.com.

Frequently a "Special Edition" guitar from that era isn't/wasn't part of the regular official catalogue of models ... you know, like TexMex, American Standard, Big Apple, etc. As such there may or may not be any official published information. There might be but I wouldn't count on it. At times there have been guitars with "Special" in the name and they can sometimes be part of the official catalogue but typically "Special Editions" and "Special Runs" are outside of the regular production runs and finding info on them can at times be problematic.

Your best bet is to contact Fender and provide them with the serial number and pose your queries to them.
Use the email address below to contact them.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
