My go-to is a 98-99 purple modded with Lace Gold 50s. This Strat (combination of the classic sounding pups, weight, wood, etc.) is as close as I've ever gotten to having something made exclusively for me in terms of ideal sound. I do use it for a few real 50s tunes, but just as much for jazz or classic R&B. About the only thing it isn't is a modern rock machine.

That's where a MIM I got about 6 months ago comes in. That's sparkle green, maple fretboard and modded with DiMarzios. Tail is tight to the body. I'm still getting used to this one, but the natural range seems to be anything from fusion to serious rock. S/N on this makes it a 2002 - 03 model.

Hello, I just bought for 110.00 a Red MIM with blue pick guard and three singles. MZ3173331 SN#. Am trying to find the thread for dating it. It sounds really nice, quieter than I thought it would be. I was told he thinks his dad changed the pick guard. Would appreciate ant info. Tom. :)

Mexican dating guide is here: http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... ct-dating/

According to that yours is 2003-2004. If you take it apart you may find dates on the body and neck.

Do partscasters count? (I haven't read the entire thread)

I have three partly MIM Strats:

Rachel - Body is either a 2000 or 2006 MIM, can't quite read the end of the date stamp, in Midnight Wine. Neck is 2001-2002 MIM (I think it was sold as a 2001)

Image

Rachel has a Trem-King Tail/Bridge, GFS 60s-70s grey bottom non stagger overwound pickups, A Fender TBX tone control, and Rev. Willy 9s. Tuners are stock for now but will be replaced with vintage style at some point. PG is white pearl from TNT
=================================

Fiona - Body is a 2013 MIM in Lake Placid Blue, Neck is a '94-'95 MIM "Squire Series".

Image

She has Seymour Duncan Mini Humbuckers, SM-3 in bridge and neck and an SM-2 in middle. Vintage style tuners, DR Cool Blue 9s, and white pearl PG from Warmoth. Stock Trem for now.

=================================

Sookie (Named for Sookie Stackhouse :) ) - Body is a 2012 MIM in Midnight wine (A bit darker that Rachel), Neck is from a Squire VM Jazzmaster

Image

Sookie has GFS Dream 180 pickups in Blk/Blk, GFS brass block trem, Vintage style tuners from TNT, Dark black pearl PG from Warmoth. Currently has GHS Boomer 9s but is slated to get a set of DR Black Beauties.

I have two MIM Strats!
The first is a 2009 SSS 3-color sunburst with a rosewood fb, vintage tuners and a black/white/black pickguard loaded with GFS Texas Staggered pickups (with a .022 orange drop cap), steel trem block and aged white knobs & covers. Nice little craigslist find that I had fun modding! My homage to SRV.
The other is a 2010 FSR HSS black Strat. Maple neck, Black pickguard, black pickup covers and black skirted amp knobs. If Darth Vader owned a guitar it would look like mine! The humbucker is stock but I replaced the neck and middle pups with a couple of Rose American Beauties. Both guitars sound and play great. Lots of tonal possibilities between the humbucker & single coils and the rosewood & maple necks.

Boom! Outta here!

My old trusty MIM strat

Image

early 2004 I got it in 2005 .. this guitar has seriously been played hard and has seen a lot of shows in that time. I guess if I were to average it out it would work out to around a gig a week from 05 to now. Reason I love fender they build guitars to last and when you have a good one they just keep going.

A set of Gilmore EMG pups, changed the bridge and swapped the original tuners to locking tuners, strap locks etc but the neck and body are original. Getting close to another fret level and re crown which I will get done in November.. need her for a few shows in October.

Have a fair few strats but this one I love.. not the most expensive one I own, just a working guitar that I trust and feel comfortable with.

Can't get a decent pic of the gold, it always looks washed out, but it is a real beauty in person. Plays great too, as they all do!

A great addition to the collection, and a great value too. I think I foresee some more MIM Fenders in my future!

Nice!
