Wow Finally! Im the lucky owner of a MIM standard Stratocaster I got used off craigslist. I love IT! I got it right after Christmas 2010. I have an awesome vintage Ibanez Les paul copy I would trade for anything in the world. but this Strat has officially replaced the Ibanez as my main axe. Please teach me the secret hand shake and let me in your club!

Thanks all for the welcome! I have a question. As I said I just received my strat from American Musical Supply and the setup seems good but there is a little fret buzz on the the low E from the 12th fret down. It has not had a setup since I received it, should that normally take care of any minor fret buzz? By the way the action is set real low, which I like.

great idea!

I own a 2007 MIM Roadhouse Strat with TexMex pickups! Its Black with a turquoise pick guard. It is un modified but it sounds great. Perfect for the blues sound that I love. I plug it through a VOX Valvetronix VT40+ Tube Amp (60 watts). These two work perfectly together.

To answer your question a set up should fix the fret buzz but you might have to tell the technician working on your guitar the trouble spots. In your case frett buzz beyond the 12th fret on the low E. Sounds to me though your action might be too low. at least on that one string. It could also be a a simple tension rod adjustment. all of which are part of a set up. Good Luck!!!

I'm going to answer your question first and then introduce my new-to-me MIM strat.

Is there buzz through an amp? It's very common to have some fret buzz acoustically but none through an amp. That's normall for very low action. If you still get buzz, the first thing to look at is saddle height. That would usually affect high frets but it's worth checking. Otherwise, adding neck relief will raise all strings, so you may want to re-adjust the saddle heights. I do all my own setups, and really recommend learning to do your own. It really helps to know your guitar.

So my Strat introduction....tonight, I picked up a (don't know what year) fat strat in ruby red. Very nice neck after a good cleaning and sounds far, far, far better than the affinity Squier fat strat that I have over there <jack points> in the rack. Neck feels nicer than the Squier and I'm partial towards maple, so that helps in the looks department.

And yes, I did a full setup after I cleaned and restrung it. Plays exactly the way I want it to. :E

:D Hey Cool thread.
I think my MIM project qualifies me for this fine club. If you haven't seen my thread " Naked MIM Build", here's the result.

I restored and polished an '06 Deluxe Players Strat body.
The neck is a new Deluxe Players with rosewood.
The bridge is an AVRI ,which fit's this body perfectly.
The wiring HSS MIM Standard with GFS Pro Tube lipstick pickups.
USA Fender Tortoiseshell pick guard/backplate.
Fender gold hardware, custom gold knobs.

Love the Mexican gear :D
Check out the full build.

MIM Strat? Okay... Here's mine (sorry for the glare in the photo).

1995 Fender Strat, sunburst body, maple neck. Plays like a dream and has a unique story behind it (according to Dave, the head guitar tech at Richmond Music):

SN#: MN519427x
100% stock and never modified.
Somebody at Fender goofed when putting together the pickguard, pups, wiring, volume/tone pots, etc..
THE WIRING AND PICKUPS ARE ACTUALLY FENDER DELTA-TONE PICKUPS FROM THE AMERICAN STANDARD MODEL, BUT YET SCREWED ONTO THE BODY OF A MIM STRAT! 8)
Dave at Richmond Music told me to never ever part with my MIM Strat, as it's kind of unique, and somehow back in 1995, it slipped through Fender's Quality Control.

Also, seen the photo below, is my new 2011 Fender Frontman 65R amp. Lord almighty, is that amp LOUD! My daughter bought it for me for a combination late birthday/early father's day present, since she works at a music store and gets great deals and discounts. It replaced my mid 80's Fender Super 60 tube amp (which I'm still kicking myself for selling). The tone was very bright at first, but then I set it to: (Clean) Treble: 3 Bass: 6. (Drive) Treble: 4 Mid: 4 Bass: 6 and have the Mid Contour button enabled. I don't use the Drive Channel, since it's way too harsh and brittle, so I am now in the middle of reprogramming my old beatup (but still working fine) 1998 Digitech RP7 Valve guitar processor to work with the new Frontman 65R.

Mark.....as soon as I picked mine up (post above yours), I thought about doing what you did......but having done a similar project to another guitar, I just don't have the time or energy. It's a lot more work than it looks like in your thread (which you know).

I hit the jackpot a couple years back and bought a used 2000 Deluxe Powerhouse Strat with the 12db boost. Maple neck and Olympic White. Got her for a really good price and wouldn't part with her for the world. Sounds and plays like a million bucks. Everyone who plays her is amazed. It was a great day in Ensanada the day she was put together. Unfortunately, Fender discontinued this model in 2007-2008. I'm always watching for another to come up for sale somewhere. If it was as good as mine I'd snatch it up in a minute. Now on the other hand, I've been looking for a Tele and was in a GC recently and tried out a MIM Nahville Deluxe Tele with a maple neck. The fret ends darn near shredded my left fingers. The quality control on that guitar was atrocious. It was a good looking guitar and the neck was beautiful until you ran your hand down the neck. It was like dragging you hand down a metal cheese grater. I was disappointed to say the least.

Picked up this 2005 tonight. SD Hot Rails in the bridge (that was wired wrong, duh...fixed now). The neck cleaned up nicely and it plays really well (after doing a complete setup). I'll hear from Fender this week exactly what it is. I love the guys at customer relations (uh.. in a non-weird kind of way).
